Cracking the difficulty of appointment booking, putting effort into 'beyond poetry'
2025-09-09
Outside the venue, the audience lined up in long lines, waiting to enter; Inside the venue, there are crowds of people, and various unique exhibits are dazzling. This summer, the popularity of museum tours has not decreased. At the same time, issues such as "difficulty in making appointments" and "difficulty in obtaining tickets" have also sparked discussions and attention. Museums are not only cultural spaces for expanding horizons, but also increasingly becoming tourist check-in destinations. Children can learn about cultural relics in textbooks here, tourists from other places can appreciate the charm of a city, and local citizens have a good place to relax. Nowadays, museums have become a cultural complex integrating education, tourism, exhibitions, public services, etc., which can meet the cultural needs of different groups. It is not difficult to understand why more and more people love museums. Data shows that museums across the country will receive 1.49 billion visitors in 2024. The demand for visitors to visit has skyrocketed, but the capacity of museums is limited, and "difficulty in booking" has become a "happy annoyance" in the cultural and museum craze. To solve the supply-demand contradiction, efforts need to be made from both ends. Targeting new demands and creating new supply can to some extent increase the carrying capacity of museums. For example, this summer, the Sanxingdui Museum in Sichuan has extended its opening until 8 pm, receiving an average of over 20000 visitors per day. Delayed opening and nighttime opening better meet the needs of traditional non visiting periods, which not only brings convenience to citizens and tourists, but also opens up new ideas for exploring new consumption potential. Actively exploring suitable open modes, further improving reservations and management, will help better meet the exhibition needs of visitors. For example, closing on Mondays used to be a tradition followed by many museums, but now many museums are trying to cancel their closing days and achieve year-round closure; Some museums are closed during off peak periods, with their closing times staggered from other museums to avoid leaving visitors with no museums to visit on Mondays. From a larger perspective, the physical capacity of a museum has a limit. To solve the difficulty of making reservations for museums, it is necessary to break away from the "one acre and three fen land" and focus on "beyond poetry", seeking ideas from the large plate of integrating cultural and tourism resources. Breaking the limitations of physical space and pushing exhibits out of museums to wider areas can allow more audiences to feast their eyes without having to travel long distances. Since the launch of the "Su Yun: Watch the Exhibition at Home" provincial tour in Jiangsu, a group of town hall treasures have frequently "traveled" for 184 days, receiving a total of 2.097 million visitors. The Beijing Grand Canal Museum held an exhibition titled "Seeing the Yin Shang Dynasty", with 338 precious cultural relics from 28 units boarded the "Canal Ship", allowing more visitors to appreciate the original cultural relics up close. Promoting museums in different regions to "hold hands" with each other, allowing more cultural relics to "travel" and "visit", the radiation of museums will become increasingly widespread. Activate dormant resources, make obscure museums popular, and effectively achieve tourist diversion. The contradiction between the demand of visitors and the carrying capacity of museums is reflected both in quantity and structure. Popular museum tickets are slow to get, but some small and medium-sized museums are deserted. As of the end of 2024, there are 7046 registered museums in China, the vast majority of which are small and medium-sized museums scattered throughout the country. Compared with large museums, small and medium-sized museums have more focused themes and distinctive collections, often providing visitors with a different cultural experience. Promoting a diverse range of museums and creating distinctive brands that are both small and beautiful not only helps to solve the problem of difficult reservations, but also cultivates new consumption growth points for local cultural tourism. To solve the difficulty of making appointments, it is necessary to focus on a specific area, adapt to local conditions, and also consider the overall situation and coordinate resources in order to obtain the "optimal solution". Providing more high-quality cultural resources and higher service levels to further enhance the quality of cultural and tourism development is the common expectation of the audience and an inevitable requirement for enhancing the sense of cultural gain and happiness of the masses.
