The donation ceremony for forest rights of Shilou County by the Hong Kong Lixing Planting Charity Foundation was recently held in Lingquan Town, Shilou County, Lvliang City, Shanxi Province. The foundation officially transferred 2600 acres of forest rights and nearly 600000 trees to Shilou County. Ling Youshi, a member of the Hong Kong Li Xing Lin Planting Charity Foundation, introduced that the establishment of the Li Xing Lin Planting Charity Foundation originated from Hong Kong doctor Xie Shiheng. Since the 1990s, Xie Shiheng began ecological governance work in Guangdong by leasing wasteland, planting ecological forests, and conserving water sources. In 2005, Xie Shiheng passed away, and a group of senior doctors and citizens in Hong Kong spontaneously established the Lixing Planting Charity Foundation to inherit this cause, planting ecological forests on the land of the motherland, conserving water sources and soil, and helping poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. In the same year, the foundation came to Shilou, Shanxi and began to participate in the ecological restoration work of the Loess Plateau. So far, the foundation has planted over 2600 acres of ecological forests, nearly 600000 trees of various types, and repaired bridges, wells, and roads in Shilou County. For the past 20 years, this project has helped Shilou County restore biodiversity in barren mountains, prevent soil erosion, increase well water volume, improve natural landscapes, and for the first time in 2019, completed the transformation from afforestation to water production to economic benefits. Local farmers have increased their income by planting chili peppers and organic quinoa. Du Houping, Secretary of the Shilou County Committee, said that in the past 20 years, the Hong Kong Lixing Forest Planting Charity Foundation has rooted itself in Shilou and transformed the "Loess Slope" into a "Green Mountain" through afforestation. Today, the ecology of Shilou has greatly improved, driving the industry to "break through zero", improving agricultural quality, integrating culture and tourism, and continuously improving people's well-being. Li Zhengyin, Vice Chairman of the Shanxi Provincial Political Consultative Conference, said that the forest coverage rate in Shilou County has been increased to over 25%, which cannot be achieved without the strong support of Hong Kong compatriots. The foundation has been devoted to the ecological construction of Shilou for 20 years, and this donation is not only a transfer of ecological achievements, but also a witness to the deep affection of Jingang.
