Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on the 2nd that Türkiye is working hard to deepen its relations with China and seeking to expand cooperation with China in the fields of economy and trade, digital technology, energy, health and other fields. According to Türkiye Radio and Television, Erdogan attended the 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1. Erdogan told accompanying reporters on the special plane returning from China to Türkiye that his meeting with Chinese leaders during the summit was "fruitful". "We hope to establish a more balanced and sustainable economic relationship with China. We will continue to maintain consultations with China." Erdogan stressed that Türkiye will continue to be committed to strengthening relations with Asian countries. He said that the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has 10 formal member states with an economic total of nearly 30 trillion US dollars. Since its establishment, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization has undergone dynamic changes. By emphasizing economic and trade cooperation, it has gained a unique identity, while also seeking to play a role in addressing global and regional challenges. Erdogan highly praised the "Shanghai Spirit" with "mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations, and pursuit of common development" as its core connotation. He said that this is consistent with the core policy of Türkiye's "New Asian Initiative" aimed at strengthening relations with Asian countries. (New Society)
