High interest rates are a scam. Crossing the bridge becomes running away

2025-09-02

Some people raise funds under the banner of "advancing funds to repay loans" and short-term high interest rates, and involve multiple people's money into their own pockets. Recently, after being prosecuted by the urban procuratorate of Jincheng City, Shanxi Province, the court sentenced the defendant Li to 11 years and 6 months in prison and fined 180000 yuan for fraud. In July 2024, Wang reported to the police that he had borrowed 200000 yuan from Li and promised to repay it within a week. However, when the loan was due, the other party did not repay the money or use it as an advance payment. Could it be that he was deceived? "It turned out that Wang had met Li, who worked as a loan intermediary in Jincheng, through a cousin's introduction. Under the temptation of high interest and low risk, Wang lent 100000 yuan to Li and quickly recovered the principal and interest. However, after the second loan of 200000 yuan, the other party had not repaid it for a long time. After investigation, Li was found to have been defrauded of over 1 million yuan by others under the pretext of advance payment, resulting in a heavy debt burden. However, he did not choose to cut losses in a timely manner, but instead began the fraud under the guise of "crossing the bridge and reversing loans". From May to July 2024, Li concealed his financial difficulties and told more than 10 people about the business of "helping clients advance funds to repay loans" - temporarily borrowing funds for a few days and lending 100000 yuan with 3000 yuan in interest. Due to his years of work experience as a loan intermediary, the victims firmly believed in his claimed "low-risk, high-yield" investments and invested in them one after another. When the victim initially invested a few funds, he would keep his promise and offer high interest rates to prove to the victim that he could indeed make a steady profit. Gradually, the victim relaxed his vigilance and invested more and more funds. In just two months, Li defrauded more than 10 people of a total of 1.781 million yuan. After receiving these funds, Li did not use them for "bridge loans", but for repaying personal debts and daily extravagance. After filing an investigation, the public security organs transferred the case to the urban procuratorate for examination and prosecution on October 19, 2024. On January 24, 2025, the urban procuratorate prosecuted Li on suspicion of fraud. (New Society)
