In recent years, tourism cooperation between Uzbekistan and China has entered a new stage, characterized not only by an increase in tourist traffic, but also by the establishment of a strategic investment partnership between the two sides. The tourism industry has become one of the important bridges for deepening economic, trade, cultural, and people to people exchanges between the two countries. In this context, mechanisms such as attracting investment, promoting regional development, and jointly creating new tourism products are being effectively implemented. In the first half of 2025, Uzbekistan will make outstanding appearances at three major international tourism exhibitions in China, including the Chengdu International Tourism Exhibition (CSITE), the Guangzhou International Tourism Exhibition (GITF), and the Hong Kong International Tourism Exhibition (ITE Hong Kong). More than a hundred tourism agencies from various parts of Uzbekistan showcased the country's abundant tourism resources. For example, the Guangzhou International Tourism Exhibition attracted 40000 professionals from 55 countries, while the Hong Kong International Tourism Exhibition welcomed about 60000 attendees. These exhibitions have become important platforms for Uzbekistan to expand its market. In addition, Uzbekistan has held roadshows in 9 major Chinese cities including Chongqing, Beijing, Macau, Fuzhou, and Shenzhen, focusing on promoting the joint tourism products of "China Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region+Uzbekistan", the theme route of "Silk Road Exploration", and winter tourism destinations. These activities facilitated B2B (business to business) connections with hundreds of well-known Chinese tourism companies, ultimately leading to the signing of over 40 cooperation agreements. On July 3, 2025, Samarkand held the "Silk Road Tourism" International Forum (World Tourism Alliance Silk Road Dialogue), where high-level representatives from China and the international tourism industry gathered together. During the forum, both sides reached a consensus to deepen investment cooperation under the framework of the "China Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region+Uzbekistan" route, and to promote joint measures for tourism promotion and investment at the provincial level. The meeting highlighted the "Arda Siva" tourism center in Siva city, as well as the material and intangible cultural heritage of Bukhara and Samarkand, which will become the core elements for creating new tourism products. With the increasing interest of Chinese tourists in Uzbekistan tourism, the air transportation infrastructure of the two countries has also achieved new breakthroughs. Starting from July 2025, China's three major backbone airlines - Air China, China Southern Airlines, and China Eastern Airlines - will all open regular flights to Uzbekistan. For example, China Eastern Airlines has opened the "Xi'an Tashkent" and "Shanghai Tashkent" routes, while Air China operates the "Beijing Tashkent" route. The improvement of these aviation infrastructure has created favorable conditions for investors and tourism operators. In the first half of 2025 alone, Uzbekistan launched 16 tourism projects with Chinese investors, with a total investment of 519.5 million US dollars. These investments mainly involve tourism infrastructure construction, hotel industry development, theme park construction, and joint tourism route development. The implementation of such projects not only enriches the tourism product categories in Uzbekistan, but also creates a large number of job opportunities for the local area, effectively promoting the diversified development of the regional economy. Nowadays, tourism cooperation between Ukraine and China has formed a comprehensive cooperation pattern covering tourist flow, investment, infrastructure, and technological exchanges. The expansion of tourism exhibitions, the convening of high-level forums, and the opening of new air routes have opened up new opportunities for Uzbekistan to attract more Chinese investment. This has also laid a solid foundation for Uzbekistan to create a dual positioning as an "international tourism destination" and an "investment hotspot".
