Recently, it was learned from the Iraqi Port Company that the first phase of the Fa'ao Port project, the largest port in Iraq with the participation of Chinese enterprises, is about to be completed. The Iraqi government is preparing the bidding documents and plans to invite 11 international port operators or logistics providers to participate in the bidding cooperation operation. Fa'ao Port is located at the southernmost tip of Iraq. As the starting point of Iraq's "Road to Development" infrastructure plan, Fa'ao Port will be built into a world-class port with a throughput of nearly 100 million tons. The first phase of the project is planned to be put into operation this year, with an annual throughput of 45 million tons. Starting from the port of Fao, Iraq will spend 17 billion dollars to build a railway and a highway leading to Türkiye. The latest progress of Fao Port captured by drone on August 26th. CCCC Tianjin Navigation Bureau has undertaken the dredging of the wharf foundation trench, harbor basin, and waterway for the Fa'ao Port project, with a total dredging volume of 106 million cubic meters. Wu Lin, the project manager of China Communications Construction Corporation's Fa'ao Port, introduced that the dock foundation has passed the acceptance inspection, and the progress of harbor dredging and channel dredging has reached 98% and 96% respectively. It is expected to be completed in October. Farhan Fatush, general manager of the Iraqi Port Company, said that the Port of Fa'ao is not only a port, but also an important node for Iraq to access world trade and participate in the joint construction of the "the Belt and Road". He stated in an interview with People's Daily that the Iranian delegation had previously visited ports in multiple countries such as China and the United Arab Emirates to learn and understand port operation experience. We visited four ports in China and learned how they contribute to connecting East West trade. We hope that these technologies and experiences can be applied to the Fa'ao Port, "said Farhan. After the Fa'ao Port is put into operation, it will significantly change the regional trade map and become an important pivot for Iraq's economic diversification. It is reported that Iran is preparing to adopt a joint operation mode in the first phase of the project. (New Society)
