On August 25th, the reporter learned from the State Administration for Market Regulation that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has recently officially released the international standard "Child Care Products - General Safety - Part 2- Mechanical Hazards". Mechanical hazards of childcare products refer to the injuries that children may suffer from mechanical hazards in product design, production, assembly, and other processes when using various products, such as cuts caused by sharp edges, compression caused by moving parts, and entanglement caused by rope accessories. It is currently one of the prominent risk factors threatening children's safety. This international standard innovatively constructs a comprehensive safety requirement system based on the characteristics of children's products, including 19 dimensions such as mechanical hazard safety concept, accessibility risk, and danger of moving parts, comprehensively covering 13 mechanical injury risk scenarios that children may face when using products. Regarding the risk of strangulation and suffocation caused by the entanglement of a rope around a child's neck, this standard requires that "the rope length shall not exceed 220mm and the ring length shall not exceed 360mm when measured straight"; In terms of the risk of pinching children's fingers caused by product moving parts, this standard proposes that the gap between product moving parts should be less than 3mm or greater than 12mm. This standard is led by Chinese experts and jointly developed with experts from 15 countries including France, the United States, Germany, and Japan. It provides a basis and guidance for the development of international safety standards for various segmented products in the future, and is of great significance for comprehensively ensuring the safety of children's products.
