May our friendship last forever. "Recently, David Kerr came all the way from the United States to witness the release of the simplified version of" Kerr's Diary: A Record of Lieutenant Kerr's Escape from the Rescue of Chinese American Pilot in the Dongjiang Column Camp "at the Guangdong Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall in Dongguan, Guangdong, China. He is the second son of Lieutenant Donald W. Kerr of the United States 14th Air Force. This aviation team is also known as the 'Flying Tigers'. This history is little known, and I want to share this story with my friends in China to express gratitude and tell it to the international community, so that as many people as possible can understand this transnational friendship, "said David Kerr. David Kerr introduced, "From 1943 to 1944, my father served as a member of the Chinese Air Force's American Volunteer Air Force for China, fighting alongside Chinese comrades in the air war against Japan. During one mission, his fighter jet was shot down over Hong Kong, and it was the local villagers and soldiers of the Dongjiang Column who saved him." On August 22, David Kerr delivered a speech at the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall in Dongguan, Guangdong. On February 11, 1944, Donald Kerr piloted a plane to bomb the Japanese occupied Kai Tak Airport in Hong Kong. Unfortunately, the plane was hit and Kerr parachuted to survive while injured. After landing in the Guanyin Mountain area of Kowloon, Kerr met Li Shi, a teenage traffic officer from the Hong Kong and Kowloon Brigade of the Dongjiang Column. He ran with Kerr all the way to the safe zone. In the following 20 days, different guerrilla fighters and villagers came to Ker's hiding place to deliver food, blankets, clothes, bandage his wounds, and help him transfer his hiding place. Under the careful cover of the Hong Kong and Kowloon Brigade, Kerr successfully avoided the Japanese army's half month long search, broke through multiple blockades, and safely left Hong Kong. Before parting ways with the members of the Dongjiang Column, Kerr left a thank-you letter and a cartoon, and the Dongjiang Column presented him with a banner to express their gratitude for supporting China's resistance against Japan. Later on, Kerr wrote a diary of over 50 pages, documenting his experience of parachuting from injury to successful escape. This friendship formed in the midst of the war has not only been passed down as a good story, but also quietly flowed and continues in the bloodline of the next generation to this day. His two sons pushed for the publication of their father's diary as a book, hoping to make more people read this story. The two and their families have also visited Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dongguan, Guilin, Hong Kong, Huizhou and other places dozens of times to search for their lifesavers. As early as 2009, David Kerr and his family visited the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall in Guangdong and donated physical items such as the military uniform and photos of American pilots that his father wore during his war in China. In July 2015, the bilingual version of "Kerr Diary" was released at the Dongjiang Column Memorial Hall in Guangdong, with David Kerr and his family in attendance. At the end of August this year, in addition to attending a book launch event and related commemorative activities in Dongguan, David Kerr also plans to embark on a rescue journey in Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Everything is going smoothly, and we have fulfilled our promise to our parents, "he said." I have made many friends here, especially with the families of the Dongjiang Column who have established deep friendships
