China is a founding member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and has always regarded it as a diplomatic priority. After the Astana Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2024, China will take over the rotating presidency of the organization and host the summit in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. China will work with its partners in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to uphold the "Shanghai Spirit" of mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for diverse civilizations, and seek common development. Around the theme of the "SCO Year of Sustainable Development", China will use "action" as the pen and "unity" as the ink to write a new chapter of high-quality development for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Even mountains and seas cannot distance people with common aspirations. In July 2023, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit officially accepted Iran as a member state. Iran is a country with significant regional and international influence, recognizing the "Shanghai Spirit", and became an observer state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in 2005. Since Iran officially joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization family, it has actively participated in ministerial level meetings in practical fields such as energy, education, health, tourism, as well as forums and activities in green development, digital, women's, media and other fields, injecting new vitality into the development of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Iran's various sectors actively evaluate the important role played by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in regional and international affairs, attach great importance to cooperation with China within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, appreciate the positive role played by China as the rotating presidency, and express full support for China to host the summit, promote the upgrading of cooperation in security, economy and trade, energy, transportation and other fields under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, inject new momentum into regional security and development, and further enhance the voice of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in global governance. China is willing to work together with Iran to promote the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Iran to a new level and make positive contributions to building a closer Shanghai Cooperation Organization community with a shared future. The relationship between China and Iran has a long history. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, the two countries have trusted and supported each other, and have a common pursuit of independence and national rejuvenation. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti Fascist War. China and Iran share a common position in opposing hegemonism and power politics. The two sides will enhance coordination and cooperation through the Shanghai Cooperation Organization platform, which will not only benefit the Chinese and Iranian people, but also make new contributions to promoting regional and world peace and stability. Both China and Iran are important members of the global South, and there is great potential for cooperation in various fields between the two sides. The Shanghai Cooperation Organization has created vast space for deepening cooperation between the two countries. China is willing to closely coordinate and cooperate with Iran within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to promote more cooperation projects. This is not only beneficial for the development of bilateral relations, but also creates favorable conditions for countries to achieve common development. More than 2000 years ago, the ancient Silk Road that connected the two ancient civilizations of China and Iran closely linked them. Today, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization continues to play a bridge role in deepening people to people and cultural exchanges between the two countries. The Chinese side provides a high-quality platform for the dialogue of civilizations among the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
