2025-08-08
This year marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Chinese cinema. For over a century, Chinese cinema has witnessed the development and changes of the times with its unique charm and strong vitality, carrying the common cultural memory and spiritual pursuit of the Chinese nation. The vast number of film workers have adhered to upholding integrity, innovation, and forging ahead, achieving remarkable results. On August 7th, the State Council Information Office held a press conference for Chinese and foreign journalists on the topic of "Strugglers on the New Journey". Five representatives from the film industry shared their stories of striving to promote the high-quality development of Chinese films and enrich the spiritual life of the people. Nowadays, facing competition from short videos, micro dramas, and other genres, Chinese cinema continues to thrive amidst opportunities and challenges. Wang Jun, Chairman of Shanghai Film (Group) Co., Ltd., sighed: "When we enter the cinema to enjoy movies, the unique social attributes and immersive experience make movies always have strong competitiveness." In her opinion, as long as creators adhere to the spirit of craftsmanship, put effort into content creation, explore new themes of movies, expand the creative space and expression forms of movies, deeply listen to people's voices, reflect the changes of the times and society, promote truth, goodness and beauty, shape vivid images, and tell touching stories, audiences will still love movies. Regarding this, film directors believe that there is a strong complementary relationship between micro dramas and movies in their bid for the Olympics. In the future, micro dramas will learn from the excellent production of movies, and movies will also draw on the advantages of micro dramas such as fast narrative pace and dramatic plot. The two are not competing for audiences, but rather integrating and coexisting to meet the different needs of different audiences under different viewing conditions. Movies should leverage their unique advantages, such as the immersive and enveloping feel of the big screen, the impactful audio-visual experience of visual effects, and the irreplaceable social attributes. Film workers should strive to expand the audience's circle, age, region, etc., attract more viewers into cinemas, and use excellent works to stimulate deep thinking among audiences, "said the bid for the Olympics. From the perspective of cinema operators, Chen Kaikai, Chairman and General Manager of Guiyang Crossborder Cinema, believes that "immersive viewing experience is our core competitiveness, and we need to strengthen the sound and image advantages of the big screen through technological upgrades. At the same time, we need to enhance the social attributes of the cinema by organizing rich activities to attract audiences into the cinema." To ensure the sustainable development of movies, we must pay attention to viewability. Song Yiyi, a producer and animator of Chasing Light Animation Culture Communication (Beijing) Co., Ltd., shared her views: the freshness of the topic selection, the completeness of the story, the depth of emotions, the richness of details, and the visual expression are all factors that affect the audience's entry into the cinema. She said, "We want the audience to see mountains and rivers, ancient and modern stories in the cinema, so that the movie can move them, inspire them, and make them think." Wei Ming, co-founder and visual effects director of Mojing Tianhe Wuxi Digital Image Technology Co., Ltd., a practitioner in the visual effects industry, firmly believes that immersive viewing experience can bring the ultimate visual feast to the audience. Wei Ming said, "We will continue to invest in film production with the most enthusiastic attitude and use the toughest technology to bring audiences stunning visuals. Attracting more audiences to the cinema with high-quality content is the common expectation of creators. Wang Jun said, "We will deeply cultivate 'Cinema+' and continuously make the industrial chain of IP authorization and IP business longer, so that its efficiency and momentum can be fully released. We deeply integrate the film with the anime economy and immersive experience consumption, hoping to create more choices for the audience. ”In recent years, the Chinese film market has been booming, cultural confidence has become more firm, and Chinese stories have set sail and written a brilliant chapter in the history of Chinese and world cinema. Chinese filmmakers constantly create brilliance in every masterpiece and technological innovation, and use light and shadow to write the struggle poems of youth dreams on the new journey.
