The 15th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Wetlands concluded on July 31 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The parties expressed their commitment to continue strengthening international cooperation to promote global wetland governance and conservation. This conference passed the Victoria Falls Declaration, advocating for all parties to strengthen resource investment and political commitment, and increase investment in wetland protection and restoration. In her closing speech, the President of the conference and Zimbabwe's Minister of Environment, Evelyn Ndhlovu, called on all parties to integrate the commitments of the conference into their national policies and strategies, fully utilize international cooperation and financial mechanisms, and fill the resource gap faced by wetland conservation and restoration. This will help us collectively enhance our influence in global environmental protection, improve ecosystems and human health. According to the Chinese delegation, two draft resolutions proposed by China and multiple countries at this conference have been passed, which call on countries to strengthen national actions and international cooperation to protect and restore migratory bird routes and their key wetland habitats, as well as advocate the integration of new technologies and traditional knowledge in wetland protection, restoration, management, and rational utilization. This conference will be held from July 24th to 31st, with the theme of "Protecting Wetlands, Building the Future Together", aiming to further strengthen international cooperation and highlight the key role of wetlands in maintaining ecological health and biodiversity, as well as enhancing climate resilience. During the conference, the Chinese delegation held an exhibition showcasing China's achievements in ecological protection, attracting about 3000 visitors for exchange. (New Society)
