Establishing Chinese standards for peacekeeping engineers
2025-07-29
On the red soil of South Sudan, Chinese peacekeeping engineers wearing blue helmets have become synonymous with "peace" and "hope" in the hearts of many local people, thanks to their excellent style and sense of responsibility. As an important force in United Nations peacekeeping operations, Chinese peacekeeping officers and soldiers not only make tremendous contributions to maintaining world peace, but also complete various infrastructure projects according to Chinese standards, and their excellent construction quality has won full recognition from all parties. Wang Yanhui, as the commander of the 15th batch of Chinese peacekeeping engineering units to South Sudan, is currently leading troops to carry out peacekeeping missions in South Sudan for the second time. After six years, stepping back on this land and watching the Chinese peacekeeping engineers relay the construction of roads, bridges, and camps, Wang Yanhui's heart is filled with satisfaction and pride. Our Chinese manufacturing has withstood the test of time and environment. ”In Wang Yanhui's view, what they are building is not just a road or a bridge, but also a window for the international community to understand China and its military. The Chinese standards established by Chinese peacekeeping engineers must be well maintained and inherited, "said Wang Yanhui. Not long ago, during the restoration of the "Kovachok Lujak Vallab" main supply line project, there was a section of road more than 60 kilometers away from the soil sampling point. If we switch to taking soil nearby, it can save a lot of time. But Wang Yanhui firmly stated, 'We cannot lower the construction standards just to save time.' Originally, the soil in the nearby area lacked cohesion. After the road is completed, there is no problem with traffic during the rainy season, but during the dry season, excessive vehicle traffic can easily cause collapse. To ensure the quality of the road surface, the requirements for soil quality must not be compromised. Although the journey to the soil collection point is longer, longer, and more arduous, the officers and soldiers all agree with this decision. The team officers and soldiers carefully carried out engineering operations such as soil collection, transportation, filling, and compaction. To ensure the progress of the task, the officers and soldiers of the team camped outside throughout the entire process, departing from the campsite with dry rations every morning at 7 o'clock, and worked in the field for nearly 10 hours. At the end of the project, the road surface of this main supply line was completely renovated, and the traffic speed could reach 80 kilometers per hour. In a foreign land, every Chinese peacekeeping officer and soldier knows that their work is related to the image of the Chinese military. For this reason, they will complete everything from an airport or a highway to a prefabricated house or a guardrail to a high standard. Wang Yanhui has carried out many tasks, and what impressed him the most was not how difficult the project was, but the fact that during the construction process, he often encountered local people giving thumbs up to Chinese peacekeeping officers and shouting, "China, Good". Wang Yanhui said that at that moment, everyone truly felt the meaning of their perseverance. Since its deployment to the mission area at the end of December last year, the 15th batch of Chinese peacekeeping engineering units to South Sudan have successfully completed tasks such as underground shelter construction, refugee camp relocation and resettlement, supply line repair, airport leveling, and super camp infrastructure upgrade and renovation, adhering to the Chinese standards of excellence. They have been highly praised by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan. Peace and development are the eternal expectations of the people. For many years, batches of Chinese peacekeeping officers and soldiers have been working tirelessly in the mission area, bringing hope for peace and development to the local people. The Chinese standards they set have been recognized by their peers, the Chinese speed they set has been admired by friendly forces, and the Chinese sentiment they convey has touched people's hearts, fully demonstrating the good image of the Chinese military as a mighty, civilized, and peaceful force.
