The China Malaysia Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement has officially come into effect! The 'gold content' of Chinese passports continues to rise

2025-07-18

Individuals holding valid Chinese official ordinary passports, ordinary passports, and Malaysian ordinary passports who enter, exit, or transit through the other contracting party for leisure tourism purposes and stay for no more than 30 days, with a cumulative stay of no more than 90 days per 180 days, are exempt from visa application. Starting from December 1, 2023, China will implement a unilateral visa free policy for individuals holding ordinary passports in Malaysia, following a trial period of over a year of mutual visa exemption between China and Malaysia. On the same day, Malaysia implemented a convenient measure of visa free entry for Chinese citizens within 30 days of entry. During the trial period, according to Malaysian statistics, there will be 3.8 million Chinese tourists visiting Malaysia in 2024, making China the largest source of tourists for Malaysia outside of ASEAN countries. On April 16, 2025, both sides signed the China Malaysia (Malaysia) Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement. Today, the China Malaysia (Malaysia) Mutual Visa Exemption Agreement officially came into effect. This means that China and Malaysia have officially entered the "visa free era". With your passport and bags, Chinese citizens can embark on a spontaneous trip to Malaysia! The "gold content" of Chinese passports continues to rise. A small passport is not only a "passport" for international travel, but also a "barometer" of national strength. Currently, China has signed visa free agreements with 158 countries. The value of Chinese passports is increasing, and there are more and more travel destinations to choose from. (New Society)
