The reporter learned from the Personal Data Protection Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region that the Macao Personal Data Protection Bureau and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data of Hong Kong recently signed a memorandum of understanding (hereinafter referred to as the memorandum) to deepen cooperation and exchange in personal data privacy protection, and jointly promote the high-quality development of the digital economy in Hong Kong, Macao, and even the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. According to the memorandum, the scope of cooperation between Hong Kong and Macao includes exchanging experiences and good practices in law enforcement, education, and training, working together to promote orderly and secure cross-border flow of personal data within the Greater Bay Area, and providing mutual assistance in investigation or law enforcement. Commissioner Chung Lai ling of the Hong Kong Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data stated that the memorandum further strengthens the connection between regulatory agencies in the two regions, fully leveraging the roles of "super contacts" and "super value-added individuals" to jointly address the challenges of protecting personal data privacy in the digital age, and jointly promote the high-quality development of the digital economy in the Greater Bay Area.
