Dialogue Across Time and Space: Zhejiang Nanhu's

2025-07-11

On the evening of July 9th, the children's play "Red Boat Star River: Victory in the North" premiered in Ruoergai County, Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province at an altitude of 3500 meters. The spirit of the Red Boat and the spirit of the Long March have completed a deep dialogue across time and space here, and young people from Jiaruo and other places have jointly painted a new picture of national unity with the pen of art. As the first children's drama with the theme of "Red Boat+Long March", this drama uses the imagery of "Star River" to tell a difficult history of marching, vividly interpreting to contemporary children that a great cause begins with a great dream and becomes a result of persistent struggle. 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the introduction of the Red Boat Spirit. On this hot land where the three main forces of the Red Army successfully met and marched northward, more than 330 young actors from Ruoergai County and 21 young actors from Nanhu District joined hands to complete a "spiritual relay" across mountains and seas with art. This is not just a performance, but also a spiritual dialogue between children from both places. ”The chief director of the drama and the head of the Lingwa Children's Art Troupe, Liu Yong, said that in order to make the story of the Red Boat take root on the plateau, he led his team to go deep into Ruoergai multiple times to collect inspiration, condensing the historical fact of "the Red Army crossing the grassland three times" into stage language. I feel it's very rare to have such a performance opportunity, and it's also the first time I've performed with my friends from Nanhu. I've also made many new friends. ”Danzeng Wangqing, who played the role of a Red Army soldier in the children's group, said. It is worth mentioning that the stage props have also been redesigned for high-altitude conditions. The director's team has ingeniously created a new character in the drama - the Tibetan girl "Xiao Zhuoma". She and her Nanhu partner "Xinxin" cross regional to awaken the "little star" symbolizing hope and embark on a fantastic journey to trace the footsteps of revolution. I played the optimistic, lively, and positive little girl Zhuoma. Many stories about the Red Army in the performance left a deep impression on me, and I also want to read more books to learn about these histories after the performance. ”Wang Yicheng from Nanhu Affiliated School of Beijing Normal University said. The script of this drama incorporates numerous classic elements of the red movement, recreating the dire situation between the Tibetan people and the Red Army. The character of "Zheng Jinyu" in the drama is derived from the real character Zheng Jinyu, a martyr from Shicheng, Jiangxi, in the classic Red Army Long March literature "Seven Matches". This character setting allows the live audience to intuitively feel the arduous struggle of the Long March and the lofty beliefs of the revolutionaries. The children's performance is excellent! ”An old party member from Qiuji Township, Ruoergai County, was very excited after watching the performance. He is also a descendant of the Red Army. "Today, I specially took a 50 kilometer car to watch the performance, bringing the story of the Long March that my grandfather's generation walked to the stage. This is the most precious gift for children. Children can understand, read and remember it." Since its premiere in 2023, "Red Boat: Star River" has undergone continuous polishing and upgrading through story creation, actor selection, centralized rehearsal, successful premiere, campus tour, and exhibition in Beijing, and has spawned multiple performance versions. In May 2025, the playgrounds of 21 primary schools in Nanhu District successively lit up with the light of the "Milky Way"; In August, this "red ship" carrying spiritual sparks will also sail into the National Theatre of China.
