According to a report on a German website on July 7th, informed sources revealed that Germany is considering purchasing up to 2500 armored vehicles and 1000 main battle tanks in order to form more federal defense forces to enhance NATO's military capabilities. NATO has requested Germany to establish up to 7 additional combat brigades for it in the next 10 years. Insiders revealed that if these main battle tanks and armored vehicles are approved for procurement, they will be used to equip these newly built units. This reflects that since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, NATO allies have become more and more worried about Moscow's aggressive attitude. According to reports, German Defense Minister Pistorius and the military leadership of the Federal Armed Forces are currently jointly reviewing procurement plans. It is reported that the procurement project includes up to 1000 Leopard 2 main battle tanks and 2500 Boxer Dog wheeled armored vehicles. The former will be jointly produced by KNDS Defense Systems and Rheinmetall, while the latter will be produced by Etec, a joint venture between the two companies. Insiders have revealed that the total order price could reach up to 25 billion euros. However, due to ongoing procurement negotiations, the total price may ultimately be lower. The German government is expected to make a decision on this in a few months. Insiders say that the federal parliament may approve the procurement plan within the year. According to reports, Germany has promised to establish several combat brigades to meet NATO's new military goals decided at the June summit in the Netherlands. In addition to the main battle tanks and armored vehicles mentioned above, the German government has obtained parliamentary approval earlier this year to purchase over 1000 modular armored vehicles from the Finnish Parthia Defense Group.
