The latest budget proposal for the US Navy's 2026 fiscal year shipbuilding budget states: "The delivery date of the USS Kennedy aircraft carrier will be postponed from July 2025 to March 2027 to support the certification of advanced arresting devices and continue the installation of advanced weapon elevators." The report states that the USS Nimitz, which has been in service in the US Navy for 50 years, is scheduled to retire in May next year, which means that the number of active aircraft carriers in the US Navy will be reduced from 11 to 10 in the nearly year before the delivery of the USS Kennedy. The report also stated that the USS Kennedy aircraft carrier has encountered multiple delays during its construction process. As early as 2023, the delivery date of the aircraft carrier was postponed from June 2024 to 2025. The latest budget proposal also shows that the delivery of the third Ford class aircraft carrier, the Enterprise, will face a one-year delay and is scheduled to be delivered in July 2030.
