One of the most concerned issues for parents is their children's enrollment. In order to send their children to good schools for further education, some parents are willing to spend a lot of money to "build relationships" with others, hoping to send their children to good schools through informal channels. And some people often take advantage of this mentality of their parents, claiming that they have a "special admission channel" and can attend prestigious schools without exams, weaving scams to profit from it. Recently, the Changning District People's Court in Shanghai held a public hearing on a case of academic fraud. The defendant, Gu, claimed that he could enter school without taking the entrance examination through internal channels and defrauded three parents of more than 120000 yuan. The court sentenced him to three years and six months in prison, imposed a fine of RMB 40000, and ordered the return of illegal gains to all victims. It is understood that Gu is an unemployed wanderer. During the enrollment season, he spread false information about the "special admission channel" to the outside world, falsely claiming that students could be arranged to attend a key university in Shanghai directly without taking exams through internal channels, and that graduates could obtain a bachelor's degree. To enhance credibility, Gu forged admission notices with school logos, temporary campus entry and exit cards, and other materials. After gaining the trust of the victims, Gu fraudulently obtained a total of over 120000 yuan from three victims under the guise of relationship building fees, tuition fees, accommodation fees, etc. After receiving the payment, Gu used the money for personal consumption. Until the start of school, the victim discovered that they were unable to apply for formal enrollment and only then did they realize that they had been deceived. After reporting to the police, Gu was arrested by the police. After trial, Changning Court held that the defendant Gu, with the purpose of illegal possession, used fictitious facts and concealed the truth to defraud others of their property. His behavior constituted the crime of fraud and the amount involved was huge, and he should be punished according to law. The defendant Gu truthfully confessed to his crime and voluntarily pleaded guilty and accepted punishment upon his arrival. Considering the facts and circumstances of the crime in this case, he shall be given a lighter punishment. In summary, the court has recently made the above judgment. After the verdict, the defendant Gu did not file an appeal, and the verdict has now come into effect. Enrollment fraud not only infringes on the property rights and interests of the people, but also undermines education fairness and enrollment order. At the same time, it can breed related illegal crimes such as forging official seals and documents, and infringing on the personal information of candidates. The judicial authorities will continue to crack down on such crimes, maintain education fairness, enrollment order, and the property safety of the people, and keep the 'ivory tower' away from the shadow of fraud. ”Judge Hu Yalong from the Criminal Trial Division of Changning Court said. The judge reminds candidates and parents to remain vigilant against temptations such as "low scores, high admission" and "exemption from entrance exams", to take the entrance examination seriously, to abandon the idea of taking shortcuts, to be wary of enrollment fraud traps, and to use their real talents and knowledge to embark on the path to their ideal university. The judge reminds us to use the "three-step method" of verifying information to prevent the trap of "internal channels" - check official websites: check enrollment information and admission information through university official websites, education examination institute official websites, or university enrollment information websites, and do not easily believe "gossip" on social media platforms. Account verification: Tuition and accommodation fees should be paid through the official bank account published by the university, and transfers to personal accounts are refused. Dialectical document: The formal admission notice should include the candidate's name, admission major, formal education system, school seal, approval from the admissions committee, and other information, which can be verified for authenticity by the university admissions office. The judge reminds us to be wary of the "four types of rhetoric" and build a strong anti fraud firewall - be wary of "exemption from exams", "over admission", and "guaranteed admission": there are no shortcuts to educational fairness, and promises of "exemption from exams", "over admission", and "guaranteed admission" are often scams. Be wary of "discounted fees for proxy payments": Regular universities have transparent and open tuition fees, with no "discounts" or "rebates". Be wary of the practice of "paying a deposit to reserve a spot": the admission process does not require prepayment, and such requirements are all fraudulent. Be wary of 'internal personnel operations': Admissions staff are strictly prohibited from privately contacting candidates and parents. The so-called' internal personnel ',' internal channels', and 'internal relationships' are often false. (New Society)
