On June 28th, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced that Egyptian archaeologists have discovered three rock carved ancient tombs dating back to the Old Kingdom period of Egypt (2686-2181 BC) in the Kubet Hawa tomb complex in the southern province of Aswan. The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities stated in a statement that two of the ancient tombs have similar features, including sacrificial tables, pottery, wooden coffins, and skeletal remains. The design of another ancient tomb is different, with a large number of well preserved pottery and adult and child skeletal remains inside. Mohammed Ismail Khalid, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt, stated that preliminary discoveries indicate that some of these three ancient tombs were reused during the Middle Kingdom period of Egypt (2055-1650 BC), highlighting the value of the Kubet Hawa tomb complex as an important burial site for multiple periods in ancient Egypt. This discovery also provides a new perspective for studying the transitional period between the end of the ancient kingdom of Egypt and the first intermediate period (approximately 2181 BC to 2040 BC).
