"Look, girl, it's hard to see the mold of Dingsheng cake now!". The Suzhou Folk Customs Museum was founded in 1986 and is the first specialized museum in China that focuses on showcasing urban folk customs, showcasing the urban folk culture of Wu region. In 2006, the Suzhou Folk Museum was integrated into the Suzhou Museum system and opened without reservation. Due to its proximity to attractions such as Lion Grove and Humble Administrator's Garden, the "small yet exquisite" folk museum has become an "unexpected joy" for many tourists on their travels. However, with the passage of time, problems such as a lack of exhibits and outdated exhibition methods have become prominent in the Folk Customs Museum. How to "materialize" folk culture? The renovated and upgraded Folk Customs Museum cleverly integrates precious cultural relics with living folk customs. The new permanent exhibition features three main themes: "Appreciating the Four Seasons," "Enjoying Three Meals," and "Celebrating a Lifetime," systematically sorting out and presenting the rich folk culture accumulation of Suzhou. The small decoration of 'Five Road God of Wealth Patrolling and Honor Guard' is actually a basic display in the main hall of Suzhou Museum. It particularly represents the folk culture of Suzhou God of Wealth walking out of the street. We have placed this exhibit in the Folk Customs Museum. ”Xu Jie, director of the Party and Government Office of Suzhou Museum and content planner of Suzhou Folk Museum, gave an example that this set of displays and decorations mainly reflects crafts such as clay sculpture, colored paint, wood carving, embroidery, etc. The overall layout is in line with the welcoming ceremony of "golden gongs and firecrackers, and the completion of sacrificial offerings" recorded in the "Qingjialu" of the Wu local customs and traditions, reflecting the beautiful wishes of the Wu people for "five roads connected and wealth gathered in eight directions". Entering the exhibition hall of the Folk Museum, you can also hear different Suzhou dialect nursery rhymes, and hearing becomes the key to awakening folk memories. Each exhibition hall uses Suzhou dialect nursery rhymes as background music, and the nursery rhyme content is in line with the themes of the three exhibition halls. Xu Jie said that the nursery rhymes passed down one by one are the best witness to the endless vitality of Suzhou folk customs for thousands of years. "In order to let foreign tourists' take Suzhou's folk culture home, we have specially designed 'Water Eight Immortals' plush cultural creation, including water chestnut, gorgon fruit, water bamboo shoots, etc., as well as refrigerator stickers with elements of Su style tiles, sugar Congee, Loong Boat lights, etc. ”Jiang Han, Director of the Cultural and Creative Department of Suzhou Museum, introduced that the museum has also created a cultural experience space on the second floor, providing drinks full of Suzhou style characteristics such as smoked bean tea and clear tea, allowing everyone to experience the taste of Suzhou on their tongue. Folk customs are the 'living dictionary' of Jiangnan culture, carrying the most vivid and down-to-earth memories of urban culture. I hope everyone can understand Jiangnan life in the Folk Customs Museum. ”The person in charge of Suzhou Museum stated. (New Society)
