Xinhua Interview | College Entrance Examination Application Form, Don't Be fooled by these "scam" tricks

2025-06-26

The 2025 college entrance examination has finally come to an end. In addition to waiting for scores and filling out college applications, fraudsters are also eager to take action, and various college entrance examination scams are emerging one after another. The main types of fraud include AI invigilation cheating fraud, high priced volunteer filling and consulting fraud, false admission notice fraud, and scholarship phishing fraud. 1. AI invigilation cheating and fraud. Fraudsters take advantage of candidates' blind spots in understanding new technologies by sending forged text messages such as "Provincial Education Examination Institute", claiming that "the AI invigilation system has determined the existence of strabismus behavior" and requesting to log in to a designated link to view the "punishment decision letter". The link is actually a phishing website. After inducing the input of ID number and bank card information, the fraud is carried out on the grounds of "paying the reconsideration deposit". Some scripts may also fabricate "real-time monitoring screenshots" and use PS technology to synthesize abnormal movements of candidates to create panic. 2. High priced volunteer application consultation fraud. Fraudsters falsely claim to have access to 'internal data' and charge thousands to tens of thousands of yuan in consulting fees under the pretext of 'one-on-one precise guidance', but in reality provide ineffective services. 3. Fraudulent admission notices. Fraudsters obtain candidate information through illegal channels and forge admission notices with university seals and anti-counterfeiting labels, accompanied by forged "admission payment notices", demanding that tuition and accommodation fees be transferred to designated personal accounts. Some notices will imitate the official format and embed fake QR codes, which will be scanned and redirected to phishing websites to deceive bank card information. 4. Scholarship phishing scams. The fraudsters pretended to be the staff of the Education Bureau, and asked for ID number, bank card number and SMS verification code by accurately screening the information of poor students on the grounds that "the national special grant is about to expire". Some scripts may also forge "Education Bureau documents", claiming that a "handling fee" needs to be paid first to activate the account and induce victims to transfer funds to the designated account. What should I do if I encounter fraud? Three step emergency stop loss! 1. Retain evidence: screenshot chat records, save transfer vouchers, record fraudulent phone calls or website addresses. 2. Call the police immediately: dial 110 or the local anti fraud center. 3. Freeze account: Contact the bank to report the loss of the bank card and log in to the payment platform to freeze the account.
