In the early morning, 29 retired military volunteers gathered in line in Longyin Village, Sanyuan Town, Santai County, Sichuan Province. They held sickles and ropes and walked towards the rapeseed fields facing the morning sun. This time, they were assigned a special task - to help veteran Wang Depei harvest rapeseed. This veteran, who is over ninety years old, participated in the Korean War and returned home after retiring in 1958. Now that Wang Depei's spouse has passed away and his children are not around, he has encountered difficulties during the busy farming season. Upon learning that the veterans' homes were facing difficulties, in early June, the Sanyuan Town Veterans Service Station organized veterans volunteers to provide on-site services. Upon arriving at the vegetable field, the volunteers immediately engaged in intense harvesting work. They have clear division of labor and skilled movements, cutting, bundling, and transporting rapeseed, forming an efficient "assembly line". At noon, the temperature climbed to 33 ℃, and the volunteers' clothes were soaked in sweat, with scratches on their arms from rapeseed stalks, but they were still full of energy. From time to time, cheerful laughter and encouraging shouts could be heard from the fields: "The old squad leader used to defend his country on the battlefield, but now it's our turn to protect his harvest." After a busy morning, all the rapeseed was harvested. Looking at the neatly arranged rapeseed stacks, Wang Depei tightly held the volunteers' hands and said, "Thank you all! Now, I feel at ease in my heart!" (Xinhua News Agency)
