Three universities in Hong Kong have entered the QS Global Top 50 rankings, and the University of Hong Kong has risen to 11th place

On the 19th, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a global higher education research institution, released the 2026 World University Rankings. The University of Hong Kong (HKU), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) were among the top 50 universities in the world, with HKU rising to a historic 11th place globally and firmly holding the top spot in Hong Kong. The three universities that made it to the top 50 in the world have all recorded an increase in their rankings compared to last year. The University of Hong Kong has achieved a breakthrough in ranking for the second consecutive year, ranking 11th globally; The ranking of CUHK has jumped 4 places to 32nd place, setting a historical record; The ranking of HKUST has jumped 3 places to 44th place. In addition to the three universities mentioned above, two other universities continue to make it into the global top 100, namely the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which ranks 54th in the world, and the City University of Hong Kong, which ranks 63rd. In addition, Hong Kong Baptist University ranks 244th, while Lingnan University ranks in the 701-710th group. It is worth mentioning that the Education University of Hong Kong participated in the QS World University Rankings for the first time this year, ranking 530th. The Metropolitan University of Hong Kong has also been included in the ranking for the first time, ranking between 781 and 790, becoming the first self financing university and applied science university in Hong Kong to make the list.
