This year marks the 5th anniversary of the promulgation and implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law. Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam stated during a media briefing before attending the Executive Council on the 17th that the SAR government will hold a related themed forum on June 21st. After the promulgation and implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, it quickly put an end to violence and chaos, restored stability, security, and order in Hong Kong, and brought stability and security to Hong Kong. Li Jiachao stated that since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, the security level of Hong Kong has been internationally recognized. The Hong Kong National Security Law only targets a very small number of individuals who pose a threat to national security. According to law enforcement statistics, in the past five years, an average of about 66 people were arrested each year for suspected violations of national security laws, accounting for 0.2% of the total number of offenders arrested in Hong Kong each year. He stated that the SAR government will continue to strictly abide by relevant laws and crack down on any behavior that endangers national security in accordance with the law, and will not be soft handed. He also mentioned that in recent years, the overall number of crimes involving endangering national security in Hong Kong has shown a downward trend. I believe that with the strengthening of social education work by the SAR government, the awareness of Hong Kong citizens to consciously safeguard national security will continue to increase.
