The Guangdong Coast Guard Bureau announced on the 17th that it has recently joined forces with public security anti smuggling, customs anti smuggling, tobacco and other departments to seize a suspected cigarette smuggling case. Six suspects were arrested on site, one involved ship was seized, and more than 57700 smuggled cigarettes were seized, with a total value of about 11 million yuan. On June 5th, the Guangdong Coast Guard received a report stating that there were suspicious vessels in the waters near Baili Island in Zhuhai, suspected of engaging in smuggling activities. The bureau immediately dispatched multiple law enforcement boats from Zhuhai Coast Guard and its directly affiliated branches to the target sea area for investigation and seizure. After on-site search and identification, the law enforcement boat successfully locked onto a suspicious vessel in the target sea area. The law enforcement officer immediately shouted a warning and drove the law enforcement boat to stop the suspicious vessel. They then boarded the ship for inspection in accordance with the law and found a batch of foreign brand cigarettes in the centralized box on board. The personnel on board were unable to provide valid documents for the vessel and proof of the legal source of the cigarettes. The law enforcement officer brought back the involved vessel, personnel, and cigarettes for further investigation and processing in accordance with the law. At present, the case is under further investigation. (New Society)
