June 10th is the first International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations. China, together with international organizations such as the United Nations and multiple countries, has carried out a variety of themed activities in various parts of the world. The "Civilization Exchange and Mutual Learning" Global Dialogue Series was held on the 9th at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA. In the afternoon of that day, a themed dialogue on "Celebrating the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations" was held, co hosted by the Permanent Missions of China, Egypt, Peru, Spain, Uzbekistan and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated through a video speech that dialogue among civilizations is the bond of peace, the driving force of development, and the bridge of friendship. China advocates being a defender of civilization and equality, a practitioner of civilization exchange, and a promoter of civilization progress. UN Secretary General Guterres stated in a video message that dialogue is crucial for building understanding and trust. The International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations calls on us to take action, listen, speak freely, and establish connections. UN Under Secretary General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Moratinos, praised China's global civilization initiative in his speech, thanked China for its leadership and firm commitment to promoting dialogue among civilizations, and expressed the need to ensure that dialogue remains at the core of multilateralism. The "Civilization Exchange and Mutual Learning" series of exhibitions, consisting of three parts: "Declaration of Civilization - A Beautiful Picture of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind I", "Sunshine - Ancient Shu Civilization and the World", and "Civilization Mutual Learning: World Vision", was subsequently opened at the United Nations headquarters. That evening, the special cultural performance of "Dialogue of Civilizations Across Mountains and Seas" was held in the United Nations General Assembly Hall. On the 9th, the "Dialogue · Zhiyin and Lanting · Yaji" Sino scientific calligraphy and music cultural exchange event was held at the Kuwait Chinese Cultural Center, with nearly 200 guests from various sectors of China and science attending the event. At the event, Chinese calligraphers wrote themed works such as "kindred spirit" and "friendship" on site. Chinese musicians performed classic pieces such as "High Mountains and Flowing Water" and "Butterfly Lovers", while Kuwaiti musicians used traditional Arabic instruments such as the Ud qin to perform their own folk songs and world-renowned works. The theme concert celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland and the International Day of Dialogue and Friendship was held in Bern, Switzerland on the 7th. About 450 Chinese and foreign guests gathered together to appreciate the wonderful performance of the Forbidden City String Quartet by the Chinese Symphony Orchestra, which resonated strongly with the audience. The "Silk Road Youth Dialogue on the Future" seminar, co hosted by the Chinese Permanent Mission to UNESCO and UNESCO, was held on the 5th at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Permanent representatives, young scholars, and experts from Greece, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Ethiopia, and other countries gathered at UNESCO to engage in in-depth exchanges on cultural exchange, youth dialogue, and future building. On the 5th, Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, held a celebration for the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations, attended by over 200 people including UN officials and ambassadors from various countries. The traditional Chinese opera "The Peony Pavilion" and the performance of traditional Chinese music such as erhu and pipa sparked rounds of applause on site. Zainab Hawa Bangura, Director General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi, said during the reading of the congratulatory message from UN Secretary General Guterres that dialogue among civilizations is the only way to achieve lasting global peace and cohesion. Ban Gula calls on the international community to eliminate differences through dialogue and strive to build a diverse, inclusive, united, friendly, dignified and equal human family. In June 2024, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by China to designate June 10th of each year as the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations. It is reported that the United Nations offices in Geneva, Switzerland, Vienna, Austria, Bangkok, Thailand, and The Hague, Netherlands will also hold exciting themed activities during the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations.
