The first theme dialogue held that afternoon was the "Celebration of the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations" jointly hosted by the Permanent Missions of China, Egypt, Peru, Spain, Uzbekistan and the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated through a video speech that dialogue among civilizations is the bond of peace, the driving force of development, and the bridge of friendship. China advocates being a defender of civilization and equality, a practitioner of civilization exchange, and a promoter of civilization progress. UN Secretary General Guterres stated in a video message that dialogue is crucial for building understanding and trust. The International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations calls on us to take action, listen, speak freely, and establish connections. The President of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Philemon Young, called in a video message for reaffirming the principles of the UN Charter, promoting tolerance, dialogue, and inclusiveness, and creating a better world for all. The dialogue will be chaired by Fu Cong, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, and attended by more than 200 UN officials, permanent representatives of various countries to the United Nations, experts and scholars. Guests from various countries conducted in-depth exchanges around the theme of "promoting cultural exchanges and mutual learning, strengthening international solidarity and cooperation". In June 2024, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution proposed by China to designate June 10th of each year as the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations. The United Nations Office in Nairobi and the UNESCO headquarters in Paris have respectively held a series of activities to celebrate the International Day of Dialogue among Civilizations on June 5th.
