Scene innovation promotes the development of humanoid robots

2025-06-06

Recently, the 2025 International Humanoid Robot Skills Competition with the theme of "Labor is the Most Glorious" was held in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. This year, "embodied intelligence" and "intelligent robots" were first included in the Government Work Report, and 2025 is also known as the "first year of mass production" for humanoid robots. From humanoid robots dancing yangko on the Spring Festival Gala, running marathons in Yizhuang, Beijing, and participating in combat competitions in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, more and more humanoid robots are appearing in the public eye. The arena is also a runway, and these seemingly eye-catching performances and competitions actually reflect the acceleration of China's humanoid robots from the "laboratory" to the "application field" in 2025. When these robots cleverly deal with complex situations on stages, runways, and arenas, we can foresee their infinite possibilities for future development. Currently, achieving true mass production of humanoid robots still faces challenges in terms of technology, implementation, and cost. The key to solving these problems is to seek suitable paths in terms of technology and application. Scene innovation, as a bridge connecting scientific and technological research with market demand, helps to address the challenges faced by mass production of humanoid robots and deserves our special attention. What is scenario innovation? According to the relevant notices issued by the Ministry of Science and Technology and six other departments, scenario innovation is guided by the creative application of new technologies, with supply and demand linkage as the path, to achieve the process of iterative upgrading of new technologies and rapid industrial growth. Essentially, scenario innovation aims to highlight application orientation, fully leverage the role of application demonstration, demand traction, and scenario promotion in promoting technological and industrial innovation, and move towards a new mode of innovative development that deeply integrates market demand and technological iteration, and empowers both directions, changing the previous "research and development before transformation" innovation development model. Scenario innovation requires a deep understanding and analysis of market demand, identifying key points in scientific research and technological applications, and then carrying out targeted technology integration research and development, continuously conducting application testing, verification, and feedback optimization, ultimately achieving deep integration of technology and scenarios, continuously promoting the promotion and application of new technologies, iterative upgrading of new products, and innovative development of new business models. To drive the development of humanoid robots through scene innovation, it is necessary to strengthen system planning. In recent years, due to the lack of systematic planning, scene innovation has encountered problems such as fragmentation and low value, and even projects have replaced scenes, directly restricting the performance of scene innovation functions. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen system planning and scientifically compile a "scenario list" (including an "application requirement list" and a "service capability list") for the development of humanoid robots. On April 15, the second China Humanoid Robot and Embodied Intelligence Industry Conference released ten typical landing scenarios of humanoid robots in the field of full scene operation and maintenance of smart grids, operation and maintenance of clean energy nuclear power plants, research and development and production of auto parts, and intelligent elderly care robots. This can be seen as an organized scenario inventory practice that will help accelerate the technological iteration and commercial transformation of humanoid robots. The development of humanoid robots driven by scene innovation requires collaborative integration. The essence of scenario innovation is the precise positioning of the value of human-machine collaboration. The consensus gradually reached by multiple parties is that "human-machine collaboration" rather than "replacing humans with machines". How to better achieve human-machine collaboration has become the core focus of the development of humanoid robots. To closely focus on practical needs, we need to explore breakthrough application scenarios at different levels and in different fields, implement forward-looking, confirmatory, and experimental application scenario projects, clarify the direction of technological innovation guided by market demand points, and promote the deep integration of market demand and technological iteration. The Shanghai Zhangjiang International Humanoid Robot Skills Competition explores the development and application space of humanoid robots from multiple dimensions, including industrial, household, and commercial scenarios, providing reference for technological breakthroughs and practical implementation of humanoid robot development. To drive the development of humanoid robots through scene innovation, it is necessary to improve institutional supply. Institutional supply includes policy support, scenario standards, and ethical norms. Introduce relevant support policies to promote the deep integration of humanoid robot technology and scenarios. In February of this year, Shenzhen released a special policy for humanoid robots, which provides precise support for key technology breakthroughs, application scenario openness, and industrialization capacity building through the "unveiling and leading" mechanism. This not only facilitates the mechanism of scene supply and demand docking, but also helps to solve the problem of "difficulty in first use" of humanoid robots and accelerate the landing of application scenarios. Explore the construction of an innovative standard system for scenarios, further forming and gradually improving industry norms. For example, the Chinese Electronics Society has released the "Application Scene Map of Humanoid Robots", which provides a scientific and standardized guide for promoting the development of humanoid robots. In addition, the development of artificial intelligence requires both technological guidance and ethical standards to safeguard it. Developing and refining ethical standards for the application of humanoid robots in various scenarios is a guarantee for humanoid robots to better move towards "human-machine symbiosis".
