On the morning of May 28th, in the newly built Suifenhe Tunnel of the Binsui Railway Suifenhe to the border improvement project in Heilongjiang Province, with the mechanical equipment drilling through the last 1 meter of the rock wall, the Suifenhe Tunnel, the transportation hub of the China Europe Railway "East Passage", was fully connected. Suifenhe City is located in the central area of the Northeast Asian economic circle, and is the largest railway transportation channel for Russia in Heilongjiang Province. It is also an important port for the "East Passage" of China Europe freight trains. In order to improve the transportation capacity of ports, in May 2024, China Railway Harbin Group Co., Ltd. carried out the upgrading and renovation project of the Suifenhe to the border line of the Binsui Railway, optimizing the existing line layout conditions. After the renovation, the train operating speed increased from 55 kilometers per hour to 120 kilometers per hour, and the line capacity was more than doubled. The renovation project includes one tunnel, three bridges, and six roadbeds. Among them, the Suifenhe Tunnel has a total length of 602 meters and is a key control project of the project. The exit is less than 400 meters away from the national border in a straight line, and it is also the only newly built "nested track" tunnel in China, which can meet the needs of trains from China and Russia traveling on the same line. Due to its location in a severely cold region, the area along the route is characterized by seasonal permafrost, and some sections have steep slopes. Construction is greatly affected by climate and terrain conditions. The design unit has carried out a "straight line renovation" of the existing line, designed a complete drainage system in the tunnel, added anti freezing and insulation design, and reserved conditions for the construction of a new line, eliminating the transportation and driving safety hazards of the existing century old tunnel. It is reported that the renovation project of the Suifenhe border section of the Binsui Railway will be completed within this year. (New Society)
