Romanian President elect Nicol á s Daan was sworn in at a joint session of the parliament on the 26th. In his inauguration speech, Daan said that Romania needs to undergo "fundamental changes" within the framework of the rule of law and promised to listen to the voices of the people to promote reforms. He stated that he will strengthen the strategic partnership with the United States and actively participate in EU and NATO affairs. Da En also proposed to focus on cracking down on tax evasion, reducing government spending, and formulating economic development strategies. He obtained a PhD in mathematics from Paris XIII University in France in 1998 and founded the Save Romania Alliance Party in 2016. He left the party in 2017 and has been serving as the mayor of Bucharest since 2020. On May 18th, Romania held the second round of presidential elections, and as an independent candidate, Daan defeated George Simion, the chairman of the Romanian Unity Union Party, and was elected as the new president of Romania.
