Chile remains the top source of imported cherries for China

In recent years, more and more Chilean agricultural products such as cherries, frozen crabs, and avocados have entered China. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs on the 14th, China imported 17.54 billion yuan worth of cherries from Chile in the first four months of this year, accounting for 16.2% of China's total imports from Chile during the same period. Chile has been the largest source of cherries for China's imports for over a decade. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Chile in 1970, the two sides have achieved fruitful results in trade cooperation. According to customs statistics, in the first four months of this year, China's imports and exports to Chile reached a record high of 163.19 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%, and a growth rate 3 percentage points higher than China's overall imports and exports. Chile was the first Latin American country to sign a bilateral free trade agreement with China, and also the first South American country to implement a customs' Authorized Economic Operator '(AEO) mutual recognition arrangement with China. Since the China Chile Free Trade Agreement came into effect, the scale of bilateral trade has grown rapidly, expanding from 70.85 billion yuan in 2006 to 437.95 billion yuan in 2024, with an average annual growth rate of 11.2%. At present, Chile is China's third largest trading partner in Latin America, and China is Chile's largest trading partner in the world. (New Society)
