In recent years, with the booming development of e-commerce platforms, more and more farmers are purchasing agricultural inputs through online channels. Compared to traditional offline channels, online channels have advantages such as price discounts and home delivery, providing convenience for farmers to purchase agricultural materials. However, the problem of counterfeit and inferior products is becoming increasingly prominent. On March 31st, the Supreme People's Court issued four typical cases of "cracking down on counterfeit agricultural inputs", punishing the crime of producing and selling fake and inferior agricultural inputs in accordance with the law, ensuring national food security, and effectively safeguarding the interests of farmers. The reporter noticed that in the case of Ding and Zhang selling fake and inferior products, the defendants used online e-commerce platforms to sell fake and inferior agricultural materials and were sentenced one by one by the court. According to the court notice, between April 2022 and May 2023, the defendant Ding knowingly sold the "Glyphosate Isopropylamine Salt" pesticide herbicide, which he sold as an unqualified product, to the defendant Zhang Mouping, with a total sales amount of over 1.22 million yuan. Zhang Mouping knew that the total attack brand "glyphosate isopropylammonium salt" pesticide herbicide he purchased was an unqualified product, but he still made multiple purchases and registered stores on multiple online e-commerce platforms. He attracted customers to purchase through low prices and hired personnel to brush orders, and sold the purchased pesticide to unspecified consumers across the country, with a sales amount of more than 1.96 million yuan. After inspection, the content of the pesticide herbicide glyphosate involved in the case was only about 5%, far below the quality indicator of 30% glyphosate content, and it was determined to be a low-quality pesticide. After trial, the court found that the defendants Ding and Zhang had committed the crime of selling counterfeit and inferior products by selling substandard pesticides. Zhang Mouping provided important clues for solving other cases, which were verified to be true and constitute meritorious service. He shall be given a lighter punishment according to law. Accordingly, the court sentenced the defendant Ding to eight years' imprisonment and a fine of RMB 800000 for the crime of selling counterfeit and inferior products; The defendant Zhang Mouping is sentenced to seven years in prison and fined one million yuan. The Supreme People's Court has stated that some illegal vendors use online platforms to sell fake and inferior agricultural materials to various parts of the country. Once farmers purchase fake and inferior agricultural materials online, it is difficult to trace and protect their rights. We would like to remind agricultural product operators that online e-commerce platforms are not lawless places, and those who engage in counterfeiting and selling inferior products will inevitably face legal sanctions. At the same time, the court reminds farmers to pay attention to checking whether the merchants have the qualifications to operate agricultural materials when purchasing agricultural products through online e-commerce platforms.
