Record the flourishing spring of rural education (Chinese Road, Chinese Dream)

2025-03-28

I am a rural teacher born in the 1990s and a video blogger with nearly 1.5 million followers. Since the launch of the self media "Rural Teacher's Diary", I have focused my camera on the children in rural primary schools, recording daily details. Unexpectedly, without deliberate design, exquisite camera movements, or fancy copywriting and editing, these simple yet slightly rough images unexpectedly touched the hearts of countless netizens, with a cumulative view count of over 390 million times, becoming a small window for observing rural education. In the class where I first taught, out of 48 students, there were 36 left behind children. I was also a left behind child when I was a child, so I secretly made up my mind that the loneliness I experienced must not be repeated. In addition to focusing on learning, I also pay attention to children's psychological changes and spend as much time as possible accompanying and protecting them. On weekends, I do farm work, cook, climb trees and pick dates with my students; During summer vacation, I took them to celebrate birthdays, catch cicadas, and play in the fields. Over time, I got along well with the children and became their trusted good friends. During a home visit, I suddenly thought of taking pictures of these things, leaving precious memories for the children and allowing more people to understand the more vivid and lively side of the countryside. Today's rural education is really different. Without the symbol of "outdated facilities" and the stereotype of left behind children being "isolated", in my lens, "happiness" is the key word. In the video, there are both happy moments of me and the children eating hotpot and flying kites together, as well as famous scenes of wits and bravery while collecting their homework. Sometimes, I directly hand over the camera to the children and let them record the innocent words during casual conversations. When filming, they are creating vivid and three-dimensional versions of themselves, with focus during learning, laughter during play, and reflection after criticism. The genuine and childlike response has made many netizens laugh uncontrollably, with some leaving a comment saying, 'It turns out that the lives of left behind children are not all bitter dramas, but more of a growing poem full of smoke and fire.'. By filming videos, children use vivid and lively life scenes to break through the flat cognition of left behind children in the past, forming an emotional resonance that transcends urban and rural areas and brings their hearts closer. Nowadays, with the deepening of comprehensive rural revitalization, rural education is no longer the backward state it used to be. In recent years, our playground has been renovated and refurbished, classrooms have been equipped with multimedia devices, meals have become increasingly diverse, and the school has also recruited young teachers who are versatile in music, sports, and aesthetics. In the video barrage, netizens are often surprised that "rural students are eating so well now" and exclaim, "I wish I had such conditions when I was a child. With the widespread dissemination of videos, more and more people are aware of the transformation of rural education and hope to contribute to it. Many netizens have signed up to participate in rural teaching support after watching the video, and enthusiastic individuals have contacted to donate books and other materials. A small screen connects countless passionate hearts, allowing consensus and warmth to flow both inside and outside the network. Videos allow the outside world to see children and also expose them to a broader world. When I read the encouragement and praise in the comment section, telling them on the other end of the screen that 'many people are following and liking you,' the excitement and excitement in the children's eyes flickered like stars. That is a power that is seen and recognized. Children who were once not good at speaking gradually become more graceful, while those who used to be mischievous have become much more sensible. Now, many units and institutions have extended invitations to schools, giving children the opportunity to enter military camps, board submarines, visit science museums, and touch the stars and the sea. The internet is not only a window to showcase change, but also a switch to activate potential, allowing children to see endless worlds and their own infinite possibilities. Using digital technology to bridge the information gap between urban and rural education, I believe, is the value of persisting in photography. 'Pay attention to rural education and care for left behind children' is the phrase I put at the end of every video, and it is also my dream and motivation. At this moment, the spring scenery is flourishing, and the trees outside the classroom window are sprouting new shoots. I will also stick to my post, while doing my job well, continue to use my camera to record the flourishing spring of rural education development. (New Society)
