Chinese representative: We should respect and protect the basic human rights of the Palestinian people

Chen Xu, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, made a speech at the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council on the 26th, explaining China's position on the situation between Palestine and Israel. Chen Xu pointed out that China is highly concerned about the current situation between Palestine and Israel. The large-scale airstrikes recently launched against the Gaza Strip have caused hundreds of civilian casualties. China condemns this and deeply regrets the destruction of the hard-earned ceasefire situation. The top priority is to avoid any actions that may escalate the situation and prevent the occurrence of larger scale human rights and humanitarian disasters. The occupying party should fulfill its obligations under international law, immediately and comprehensively restore humanitarian access to Gaza, and respect and protect the basic human rights of the Palestinian people. Chen Xu stated that the Gaza Strip is an inseparable part of the Palestinian territory. Any attempt to forcibly change the status of Gaza will not bring peace, but will only trigger new turmoil. China firmly opposes the forced relocation of the people of Gaza. The international community should contribute to promoting a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire in Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid. China supports the Gaza restoration peace plan jointly initiated by Egypt and other Arab countries, and supports the principle of "Palestinian people governing Pakistan" to start reconstruction as soon as possible. Chen Xu emphasized that the ultimate solution to the Palestinian issue must return to the correct track of the "two-state solution". Only through genuine peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel can the equal enjoyment of all human rights by the Palestinian and Israeli peoples be guaranteed. The Chinese side supports the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights and justice, and is willing to work together with the international community to take the "two-state solution" as the fundamental solution and make unremitting efforts to promote the early, comprehensive, just and lasting resolution of the Palestinian issue.
