Say 'no' to 'human flesh unboxing'

In recent years, incidents of online "human flesh unboxing" have occurred from time to time. When did 'human flesh unboxing' happen? How to protect personal information security? The reporter conducted an investigation. Everyone can become a victim. "Human flesh unboxing" and "unboxing hanging people" refer to the use of illegal means to publicly expose others' private data and information. Originally from anonymous platforms such as online forums and forums, they mean "opening the box to expose privacy" and "hanging someone's information online". Some "unboxing" incidents have evolved from simple information exposure to illegal behaviors such as telephone harassment, verbal attacks, intimidation and threats. Online violence such as "human flesh unboxing" has brought many negative social impacts. In addition to celebrities or public figures, ordinary people may also become victims of "human flesh unboxing". Some people are subjected to human flesh searches by "box openers" simply because they express different opinions online, resulting in insults and harassment. Behind many "unboxing" incidents, there are the figures of minors, and some hyperlinks, Tieba, and online "campus walls" have become the hardest hit areas for "unboxing". In 2023, a certain video platform reported a case of "human flesh unboxing". According to the investigation by the public security organs, this online violence and infringement case involves more than 40 people from 18 provinces, and the main active members are two minors. Experts say that minors are in a period of shaping their "three values" and often lack the ability to judge the harm and legal consequences of their behavior; Some people even use obtaining and disclosing others' information as an ability to show off to their classmates and friends around them. At the same time, some "box openers" have not reached the age of criminal responsibility and have only received minor punishment after the incident occurred; Some 'box openers' conceal their identities through overseas devices and accounts, making it difficult to track and crack down on. Hidden black "industry chain" and "human flesh unboxing" incidents occur from time to time, reflecting multiple risks such as information security, and even forming a "unboxing" black industry chain on the internet. The reporter searched for keywords such as "unboxing" and "human flesh" on some social media platforms and found many posts containing implicit language. Some "slang", such as "cx", stands for "ordinary query", which can check the name, mobile phone number, ID number and other elements; LM "stands for" demon hunting ", which can be used to further query courier addresses, license plate owners, etc. The reason why "human flesh unboxing" can obtain the opportunity to "open" is largely due to user data leakage. It is understood that some practitioners in the black and gray industry collect leaked personal information and build searchable databases. This type of database is commonly known as the "social work database", with different sources of data, such as data leaked from food delivery and courier addresses, as well as various types of data resold online. The reporter searched for "unboxing" on a certain overseas social media platform and found multiple related public groups, among which one group with keywords such as "checking people/social workers" had nearly 5000 members. The introduction of this group shows that you can query the room opening records, assets under the name, flight information, etc. by simply providing the ID card number; If only the mobile phone number is provided, location tracking, delivery and takeaway addresses, call records, etc. can also be queried. The reporter browsed the group page and saw that multiple anonymous users frequently posted "human flesh" advertisement posts, accompanied by contact information of domestic and foreign online platforms. An anonymous user posted stating that "internal personnel are recruited nationwide", listing institutions such as public security, taxation, banks, operators, and express delivery, stating that "those who lack money and want to make money can contact me". The reporter clicked into the home page of a group member who was promoting the "open box" business, and showed several screenshots of "order issuance" - from the IP location address to the social insurance certificate, from the online escape record to the family registered residence registration information, from the call record to the express delivery address, many of which were taken photos for the computer screen. According to a QQ account posted in an advertisement post, the reporter established contact with a professional. This person said that by providing a mobile phone number, you can check the family's registered residence registration, work unit, delivery address, express delivery address, etc., and the list price is 500-1000 yuan. He repeatedly emphasized the "authenticity" of the information, but remained tight lipped about the source of the information, stating that it was "confidential" content. The relevant departments of the country have been working hard to crack down on online violence by saying 'no' to 'human flesh opening boxes'. In November 2023, the Cyberspace Administration of China launched a special campaign called "Clean and Honest Network Anger Rectification", which aimed to resolutely crack down on behaviors such as "online toilets" and "opening boxes to hang people", and to resolutely ban accounts and groups with themes such as "online toilets", "opening boxes to hang people", and "pulling and trampling to provoke wars". In 2024, the online communication departments in Beijing, Henan, Guizhou, and other regions conducted in-depth investigations into problem clues, disbanded and closed more than 1500 topics, super conversations, and Tieba that provided "hanging people" services, and imposed heavy penalties on platforms with prominent problems. Relevant illegal clues have been transferred to the public security organs. To prevent 'human flesh opening the box', enterprises and platforms should bear the main responsibility. Liu Junhai, a professor of Renmin University of China Law School, and others suggested that the platform could optimize the reporting mechanism, delete privacy related content in a timely manner, and take more severe punishment measures against illegal accounts; At the same time, improve the accuracy of monitoring sensitive words and promptly clean up inappropriate comments. Qi An Xin security expert Pei Zhiyong and others suggest that relevant platforms should follow the "minimum necessary principle" when collecting data, reduce front-end data collection, and lower the risk of data leakage from the source. At the same time, an information encryption mechanism and a responsibility mechanism for providing information to third parties should be established for privacy data; Once an information leakage incident occurs, it can be promptly traced back. Xu Boyang, a lecturer at China University of Political Science and Law, suggested that primary and secondary schools should carry out more legal education. Judicial personnel who handle juvenile cases can be invited to campus to explain relevant legal knowledge based on cases, enhance the legal awareness of young people, and let them understand the risks and hazards of behaviors such as "opening boxes". Experts suggest that netizens should raise their awareness of personal privacy protection and try to avoid disclosing their real name, home address, itinerary, and other information online. Once encountering "unboxing" or being threatened with "unboxing", you can report to the platform and request the removal of infringing content; At the same time, actively take legal measures to safeguard one's own rights and interests, and if necessary, file a lawsuit with the court in accordance with the law.
