On the afternoon of February 7, Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Harbin with Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), who came to China to attend the opening ceremony of the 9th Asian Winter Games.

Xi Jinping pointed out that in recent years, China has successfully held the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Chengdu Universiade, and the Hangzhou Asian Games, and will welcome the Harbin Asian Winter Games tonight. These major sporting events all reflect the close cooperation between China and the IOC. The Olympic spirit is an important part of human civilization and highly coincides with China's goal of comprehensively promoting the great cause of building a strong country and national rejuvenation through Chinese-style modernization and the vision of promoting the building of a community with a shared future for mankind. By integrating the Olympic spirit with outstanding traditional Chinese culture, China is vigorously developing sports and moving forward towards the goals of building a sports power and a healthy China, and will surely continue to make new contributions to the international sports cause. We are willing to work with the IOC to continue promoting the flourishing development of the Olympic Movement.

Bach expressed his gratitude to China for its long-term strong support to the IOC. China has successfully held wonderful and memorable major events such as the Beijing Winter Olympics, making significant contributions to the international Olympic cause.
