Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea has developed a new type of intelligent patch. It can not only monitor biometric signals in real-time, but also achieve drug delivery based on this. The research team believes that this intelligent patch achieves personalized and real-time treatment, and will play an important role in multiple medical fields such as blood glucose management, pain relief, and chronic disease treatment. The relevant paper was published in the latest issue of the journal Nature Communications. With the increasing trend of aging society, the importance of personalized healthcare is growing day by day. Wearable medical devices that can monitor health status in real time and provide timely treatment have attracted much attention. However, existing wearable devices often have single functions, either only able to monitor biometric signals or deliver drugs, making it difficult to integrate multiple functions into one device. To break this limitation, the team has designed this new type of intelligent patch. It integrates electrical and optical biometric signal sensors, drug delivery systems, and wireless communication modules into a foldable structure. This patch can automatically deliver drugs based on real-time detected biometric signals, providing users with customized personalized treatment plans. The team validated the performance of the intelligent patch through real-time biometric signal measurement and drug delivery experiments. The experimental results show that the intelligent patch achieves real-time monitoring of electrocardiogram and blood flow, and accurately analyzes changes in heart rate and pulse conduction time. The team plans to further improve this technology and build it into an intelligent medical platform suitable for different medical fields. (New Society)
