On the afternoon of February 5, President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China held talks with President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan, who is on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Xi Jinping pointed out that China and Pakistan are ironclad friends and all-weather strategic cooperative partners. The longstanding and deep-rooted traditional friendship between China and Pakistan was personally fostered by the older generation of leaders of the two countries and is a precious asset for both countries and their peoples. In recent years, the two sides have firmly supported each other politically, maintained close high-level exchanges, and deeply advanced the construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and cooperation in various fields, setting an example for relations between countries. China is willing to work hand in hand with Pakistan on their respective paths of modernization, accelerate the building of a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future in the new era, better benefit the two peoples, and make greater contributions to regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Xi Jinping emphasized that China has always viewed its relations with Pakistan from a strategic perspective, and its friendly policies towards Pakistan have maintained a high degree of stability and continuity, always facing the entire Pakistani people. China will, as always, firmly support Pakistan in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, combating terrorism, and following a development path that suits its national conditions. The two sides should deepen the docking of development strategies and the exchange of governance experience, strengthen exchanges at all levels and between various departments, and continuously consolidate the political foundation of China-Pakistan relations. Pakistan is welcome to be the first to benefit from China's further comprehensive deepening of reform and expansion of high-level opening up. China is willing to deepen practical cooperation with Pakistan in various fields, jointly create an "upgraded version" of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor cooperation, and help Pakistan consolidate its development foundation and unleash its development potential. It is hoped that Pakistan will strengthen the security protection of Chinese personnel, projects and institutions in Pakistan and enhance bilateral and multilateral counter-terrorism cooperation. Next year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Pakistan. The two sides should deepen exchanges and cooperation in culture, education, media and other fields to ensure the continued inheritance of the China-Pakistan friendship. China appreciates Pakistan's active support for the three global initiatives and its participation in relevant cooperation. China is willing to work with Pakistan to adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, resist unilateralism and hegemony, strengthen multilateral cooperation and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Zardari said that Pakistan and China are close neighbors and, more importantly, all-weather good friends and partners. The friendship between Pakistan and China has withstood the test of time, and the hearts of the two peoples have always been closely linked. No matter how the situation changes, Pakistan will unswervingly stand with China. Pakistan is grateful to China for its selfless assistance in Pakistan's economic and social development, and is willing to learn from China's successful experience to promote the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and cooperation in various fields, and help Pakistan achieve industrialization and modernization. Under the wise guidance of President Xi Jinping, China is playing an increasingly leading role in international affairs and is increasingly becoming an important force in maintaining world peace, stability and prosperity. Pakistan is willing to cooperate closely with China, adhere to multilateralism, safeguard free trade, and promote the common interests of the two countries and the vast number of developing countries.

After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of a number of bilateral cooperation documents in the fields of jointly building the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, trade, science and technology, radio and television, and other areas.

Before the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcome ceremony for Zardari in the North Hall of the Great Hall of the People.

21 gun salutes were fired in Tiananmen Square, and the honor guards lined up to pay their respects. The two heads of state ascended the reviewing stand, and the military band played the national anthems of China and Pakistan. Accompanied by Xi Jinping, Zardari reviewed the honor guard of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and watched the march-past.

That evening, Xi Jinping held a welcome banquet for Zardari in the Golden Hall of the Great Hall of the People.
