2025-01-23
On January 20-21, Ding Xuexiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, was invited to visit Switzerland and met with Swiss Federal President and Minister of Finance, Keller Zutter, and held talks with Federal Vice President and Minister of Economy and Education, Pamlan. Ding Xuexiang conveyed the warm greetings of President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to the leaders of Switzerland, and Keller Zutter and Pamlan asked Ding Xuexiang to convey their good wishes to the Chinese leaders. Ding Xuexiang said that Switzerland was one of the earliest Western countries to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with New China. The relationship between the two countries has gone through ups and downs, and has always been at the forefront of China's relations with Western countries. It has become a model of mutual respect and win-win cooperation among countries of different social systems, development stages, and sizes. In 2017, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Switzerland, and the two sides reached a series of important consensuses, taking bilateral relations to a new height. This year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland. Both sides need to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, deepen political mutual trust, further promote the spirit of "equality, innovation, and win-win" cooperation between China and Switzerland, and continuously open up new prospects for the China Switzerland innovation strategic partnership. Ding Xuexiang stressed that China Switzerland friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation are in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the common expectations of the international community. Both sides should strengthen high-level exchanges, leverage the role of bilateral dialogue mechanisms, consolidate and develop correct mutual understanding, and support each other in areas involving each other's core interests and major concerns. Strengthen complementary advantages, adhere to mutual benefit, accelerate the negotiation of upgrading free trade agreements, and strive to achieve substantive results as soon as possible. Strengthen innovation cooperation, jointly explore and promote the development of life sciences, artificial intelligence, and green technologies, and cultivate new growth points for pragmatic cooperation. Strengthen financial interconnectivity, deepen cooperation in capital markets, corporate financing, financial regulation, and other areas, and successfully host the new China Switzerland financial dialogue. We will strengthen people to people and cultural exchanges, take the opportunity of jointly celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties, and hold the "China Switzerland Year of Culture and Tourism" well, promote more convenient and frequent personnel exchanges between the two countries, and consolidate the public opinion foundation of China Switzerland friendship. Ding Xuexiang stated that Switzerland, as a permanent neutral country, is home to many international organizations and plays a unique role in international and regional affairs. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. China is willing to continue to make good use of existing mechanisms and channels with Switzerland, maintain communication and coordination on multilateral affairs and international and regional hotspot issues, jointly practice true multilateralism, and make greater contributions to building a community with a shared future for mankind. Keller Zutter expressed that Switzerland cherishes its friendship with China and is willing to work together with China to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the "Switzerland China Cultural and Tourism Year" activities, promoting the innovation strategic partnership between Switzerland and China to a higher level. Ruizhong's stance on adhering to free trade and opposing protectionism is completely consistent. The success story of the Ruizhong Free Trade Agreement demonstrates that mutual benefit and win-win outcomes can be achieved through open cooperation. We are willing to strengthen pragmatic cooperation and jointly promote economic development and prosperity through upgrading free trade agreements. Pamlan stated that Switzerland and China have complementary economic advantages and broad common interests, with enormous potential for cooperation in areas such as innovation, finance, higher education, and vocational training. Switzerland is willing to accelerate negotiations with China to upgrade the free trade agreement and help each other achieve sustainable development. Strengthening communication and coordination in multilateral affairs, jointly addressing global challenges, thanking China for providing visa free and other convenient measures for Swiss citizens to travel to China, willing to further strengthen cultural exchanges, welcoming more Chinese tourists to Switzerland, and enhancing Switzerland China friendship.
