On January 6th, the first lecture of the "Zhongguancun High end Science Popularization Lecture Hall" was held in Xiong'an New Area. Zhang Bo, an academician of the CAS Member, professor of Tsinghua University, and honorary president of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Tsinghua University, said in his keynote speech that general artificial intelligence is the development direction of future artificial intelligence, and the big language model (LLM) has taken a key step towards general artificial intelligence. The first lecture of the "Zhongguancun High end Science Popularization Lecture Hall" at the beginning of the year focused on the core topic of "The Status and Future of Artificial Intelligence Development". Academician Zhang Bo delivered a keynote speech titled "The Status and Future of Artificial Intelligence Development - Towards the Third Generation of Artificial Intelligence". Zhang Bo stated in his speech that the first generation of artificial intelligence is knowledge driven, while the second generation is data-driven. However, they both belong to specialized artificial intelligence that targets specific fields, utilizes specific models (algorithms), and completes specific tasks, and are therefore also known as weak artificial intelligence. At present, we are in a new era of generative artificial intelligence, where cutting-edge technologies such as big language models and multimodal generation are leading profound changes in the field of artificial intelligence. The third generation of artificial intelligence will develop towards the direction of general artificial intelligence. The current view in the scientific community is that general artificial intelligence must meet at least three conditions: domain independence, task independence (multitasking, including complex tasks in complex environments, reaching human level), and having a unified theory.
