2025-01-07

Since the service station helped me repair my house, there has been no more rain at home. Thank you very much. "Recently, 73 year old retired soldier Yang Zhaoti brought a banner to the town's retired soldier service station in Xidachang Town, Qingdao City, Shandong Province. Since 2023, the Qingdao Veterans Affairs Bureau, together with 10 departments including the Municipal Development and Reform Commission, Municipal Finance Bureau, and Municipal Housing and Urban Rural Development Bureau, has launched the "Rongjun Residence" maintenance project, allocating special funds every year to help rural housing difficulties to rebuild dangerous houses and repair old houses, so that they can have a place to live and a safe place to live. The person in charge of the Veterans Affairs Bureau of the city introduced that the "Rongjun Residence" maintenance project is organized and constructed by the district (city) veterans affairs department, or by the construction unit commissioned by the individual beneficiaries, and the maintenance costs are subsidized according to a fixed standard; If the maintenance cost exceeds the subsidy standard, the Qingdao Veterans Care Fund will assist in resolving it. 67 year old retired soldier Wang Jiutian from Baoshan Town told me that his three bungalows were built in 1980 and started leaking last year. However, he is unable to climb up to the roof for repairs due to his limited mobility. In early 2024, after the village committee registered and reported the damage to the house, the staff of the town's retired military service station came to measure and arrange for construction. They not only helped him replace the tiles, but also painted the interior walls, making the residence look brand new. In order to promote the implementation of the "Rongjun Residence" maintenance project, the Veterans Affairs Bureau of the city conducted household surveys, comprehensively counted the housing improvement needs of seven types of preferential treatment objects in the city, and sorted out information such as housing area, construction year, and whether it is included in the demolition plan. The evaluation company organized on-site surveys, measurements, and calculations, classified and included retired soldiers' housing that meets the maintenance conditions in the scope of government repair and social assistance repair, and achieved the goal of repairing as much as possible. The Veterans Affairs Bureau of the city also mobilizes social assistance through media promotion and the release of charitable donation initiatives. Zhao Xingshu, Vice President of the Retired Soldiers Care Foundation in the city, introduced that after the donation initiative was launched, it first received positive response from a large number of retired military cadres. 91 year old veteran of the Korean War, Chen Yunshi, immediately contacted community grid workers to donate money. He said, "Retired veterans have made contributions to the military, but now they are facing difficulties in their lives. We should extend a helping hand." It is understood that local enterprises and caring individuals have also taken action to jointly contribute to improving the living conditions of veterans. Cracks have appeared on the walls of Wang Dewei's house, a veteran who participated in the war in Jimo District. After learning about it, the district's retired military affairs department promptly sent people to help him reinforce and repair it. He said, 'The staff worked carefully and thoughtfully, and even helped me replace the doors and windows. I lived comfortably and warmly this winter.' It is understood that the 'Rongjun Residence' maintenance project has helped 1405 households in the city improve their living conditions. (New Society)
