On the afternoon of January 13th, the 2026 annual work conference of the Inter Ministerial Joint Conference on Energy Conservation and New Energy Vehicle Industry Development was held in Beijing. The reporter learned from the meeting that China will focus on enhancing the independent and controllable capabilities of its industrial and supply chains, and accelerate breakthroughs in technologies such as solid-state batteries and high-level autonomous driving. It is reported that during the 14th Five Year Plan period, the size of China's new energy vehicle market increased by 3.6 times, automobile exports jumped to the top in the world, the cost of power battery cells decreased by 30%, the lifespan increased by 40%, and the charging rate increased by more than three times, further enhancing its international competitive advantage. The meeting emphasized that 2026 is the starting year of the 15th Five Year Plan, and the development of the intelligent connected new energy vehicle industry is in an important opportunity period. We must adhere to problem oriented, systematic, and bottom line thinking, increase work coordination, further improve work measures, and promote high-quality development of the industry. One is to prepare the "Plan" well, strengthen the coordinated layout with energy, infrastructure and other related plans, clarify development goals, deploy key tasks, and lead industrial innovation and development. The second is to enhance the independent and controllable capabilities of the industrial and supply chains, implement a new round of high-quality development actions for key industrial chains, strengthen the layout of research and development of iconic products, basic materials, tools and software, and accelerate breakthroughs in technologies such as all solid state batteries and high-level autonomous driving. The third is to further expand automobile consumption, promote the work of exchanging old cars for new ones, promote the large-scale application of new energy heavy-duty trucks, deepen the reform of new energy vehicle insurance, and stimulate diversified consumption potential. The fourth is to standardize the order of industrial competition, strengthen cost investigation and price monitoring, enhance supervision and inspection of product production consistency and quality, strengthen the role of standards in leading industrial upgrading, and guide industry self-discipline.
