In daily life, electric bicycles are a means of transportation for many residents. In urban bungalow residential areas, the safety of electric bicycle charging has long been a major concern for residents and communities. Recently, in the Pingfang District of Xichang Avenue in Xicheng District, Beijing, a smart charging case for electric bicycles called "Xiao'an" was unveiled. This charging case is equipped with a networked charging detection device that can collect charging data and "identify" safety hazards in the battery and charger. Since its first installation in late April this year, this charging case has successfully identified 9 charging safety hazards in just over 10 days, becoming a "smart assistant" for community management. The relevant person in charge of the Xicheng District Fire Rescue Brigade in Beijing introduced that high-risk behaviors such as flying wire charging, indoor charging, and using inferior chargers have been repeatedly prohibited. However, the high density of buildings and narrow passages in bungalow areas make the consequences of a fire unimaginable. To solve this problem, in December 2024, the West Chang'an Street Safety Office commissioned a technical unit to develop a charging device with intelligent monitoring function. After nearly half a year of development, testing, and production, the first batch of networked electric bicycle charging and testing equipment was first put into operation in the bungalow courtyards of Beixinhua Street Community and Yidali Community in late April this year. How smart is this charging case? Its built-in network energy calculation module not only allows residents to real-time grasp the amount of each charge, but also accurately monitors the safety status of chargers and batteries. At the same time, street management personnel can dynamically evaluate the usage of the charging box through the backend system, achieving a dual guarantee of "resident self-examination+community supervision". On May 6th, this charging case indicated abnormal charging. According to backend data, an electric bicycle on West Fourth South Street was charged four times within three days, with three instances showing abnormal data. The charging current of the car is as high as 3.1 amps (far exceeding the normal standard of 1 amp to 2 amps), and the charging power is 679 watts (the normal value does not exceed 350 watts). The street safety office, community workers, and fire rescue personnel immediately rushed to the scene to investigate and found that the electric bicycle battery had multiple issues with unplugging and not being able to charge properly. After inspection, it is suspected that the battery has been illegally modified and continuous use may cause a fire. The staff provided safety education to the car owner on site, requiring them to send the battery for inspection and maintenance as soon as possible to eliminate potential hazards in a timely manner. Previously, I used to worry about my neighbors charging safely, but now with smart charging boxes, it's like inviting a 24-hour 'security guard' to the alley. ”Aunt Li, a resident of Beixinhua Street community, sighed. As of May 13th, this charging case with sharp eyes has identified 9 suspected safety hazards of electric bicycle batteries, and its efficient and accurate monitoring capabilities have been unanimously recognized by residents and community workers.
