Bangladeshi mangoes enter the Chinese market for the first time
2025-05-29
On the evening of May 28th, a flight carrying 3 tons of mangoes produced in Bangladesh arrived at Changsha Huanghua Airport Port from Dhaka. At the fruit inspection site at the port of entry, customs officers at Changsha Huanghua Airport checked the cargo labels, plant quarantine certificates, and other certificates, and conducted quarantine inspections on the packaging and fruit appearance. After no abnormalities were found, the batch of mangoes was cleared and released that evening. This is the first time that China has imported mangoes from Bangladesh, marking a new breakthrough in agricultural trade cooperation between China and Bangladesh. This batch of mangoes is a geographical indication product of Bangladesh, which means "sea of ice and snow" in Bengali language. Its flesh is pure, delicate, high in sugar, and combines unique floral and tropical fruity aromas. It is planned to be sold through domestic e-commerce, supermarkets, and fresh food chains. Previously, Bangladeshi mangoes were mainly exported to the Middle East and European Union markets. After achieving a breakthrough in exports to China, it is expected to exceed 100 tons in the first year. The head of the Animal and Plant Inspection Department of Changsha Customs introduced that the General Administration of Customs issued a notice in July 2024, allowing the import of fresh mangoes from Bangladesh that meet relevant requirements. Changsha Customs closely follows up on the needs of enterprises, providing full process services from policy consultation, enterprise registration, quarantine approval and other links, and promoting the landing of the first national import order in Hunan. Fresh goods have high requirements for the temperature and humidity of the storage environment. In order to ensure the smooth clearance of this batch of mangoes, Changsha Huanghua Airport Customs has played the role of the "Optimal Fresh Clearance" studio, formulated regulatory plans in advance, tracked the arrival time of flights, and achieved "on-demand inspection" and rapid departure. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh. It is reported that in recent years, China Bangladesh economic and trade cooperation has achieved high-level development. China has been Bangladesh's largest trading partner for 15 consecutive years.
