Shaping Guangdong's Cultural IP as a 'New Force'
2025-05-27
The 21st CIIE has come to a successful conclusion, but the "exhibition effect" has just begun. What is your 'top tier' in this cultural feast? You may say that they are AI newcomers such as Deep Search and Yushu Technology; It could also be said that they are various robots that can be called "gods fighting"; It could also be said that it is a unique cultural and creative genre that is entirely rooted in the aesthetic preferences of young people. These answers are actually a response to the theme of the Cultural Expo - "Innovation leads the trend, creativity lights up life". Culture certainly requires accumulation, but at the same time, it cannot be separated from innovation and creation. The same goes for the cultural industry. At present, the heat of cultural consumption is constantly rising, becoming a phenomenon level hot topic, partly due to people's growing spiritual and cultural needs, and partly due to the "innovative consciousness" of cultural supply. The same logic also applies to the Cultural Expo, which is known as the "first exhibition of China's cultural industry". "New ideas come out every year and exciting exhibitions emerge every year". Ultimately, it relies not on the expansion of exhibition areas or the increase in the number of exhibitors, but on the power of originality, that is, by leveraging the wings of the market, culture can better fly into ordinary people's homes. Under the principle of 'competing on the same stage', why should we 'break through the boundaries and go out to sea'? Looking at this year's Cultural Expo, the appearance of "Guangdong made" cultural IP is a very representative "microscope". For example, many people may not know that the highly popular original Chinese anime IP star "Milk Dragon" is actually a real "made in Guangdong", born in Bao'an, Shenzhen. Soft, cute, and likable, it was positioned early in the children's market and has now become a favorite among adults, synonymous with warmth and healing. It can be seen that IPs with stories and emotions always form strong penetrating power. Of course, the "spotlight" of the Cultural Expo is also indispensable - "Milk Dragon" has grown from an anime character to a global IP with its own amusement park, thanks to the "matchmaking" of the Cultural Expo. Why do brands bloom everywhere after being exported? Culture is like water, shaped by things. On the eve of the opening of the Cultural Expo, the first AI mascot "Little Water Drop" was officially unveiled. This AI era IP, jointly developed by a local enterprise in Guangdong and the Cultural Expo, is full of ingenuity and profound meaning in both image and concept: from Laozi's "Shangshan Ruo Shui" to Confucius' "Wise Men Enjoying Water", in Eastern philosophy, water represents inclusiveness and flexibility, combining strength and beauty. According to the official introduction, "Little Water Drop" has pioneered three innovative models: "AI+Cultural and Creative", "AI+Tour", and "AI+Study". For example, in terms of study, it has joined forces with "Milk Dragon" to extend cultural heritage from exhibition sites to family settings. The alliance of "culture+technology" has stirred up the vitality of industrial leap and responded to the wave of boundary melting in the era. Why do "stars shine" when highlights frequently appear? Dongguan Trendplay further enhances its reputation as the "City of Trendplay"; 20-year-old 'Piggy Hero' and JD's' Dream Link '; The creative team of "Young Lions" will launch "Young Loong Boat", the trilogy of "Guangdong Intangible Cultural Heritage"; Sanqi Interactive Entertainment showcases IP matrices such as "Call Me Boss" and "Douluo Continent: Soul Master Duel", amplifying the potential for games to go global... Through the window of the Cultural Expo, it can be seen that Guangdong, as the largest province in the cultural industry, is anchoring a new cultural coordinate system. The rich cultural resources, massive consumer market, and mature industrial chain have enabled this land to turn possibilities into reality. It should also be noted that IP building is a "difficult but correct" thing. From the perspective of the entire industry, high required costs, long return cycles, insufficient cross media narrative capabilities, and susceptibility to homogeneous competition are common challenges faced. From the perspective of Guangdong, there is still a lot of room for improvement from "plateau" to "peak", from "frequent emergence of top streams" to "diverse flowers blooming", from "exporting brands" to "exporting ecology". On the first day of the Cultural Expo, Guangdong officially announced a "policy package" for the cultural industry, covering six major fields and presenting 87 policy measures in one breath, highlighting support for high-quality production, full industry chain support, Greater Bay Area synergy, cutting-edge technology applications, etc. It can be said that the package is full of practical knowledge and very thirst quenching. The promise of cultural exchange will not end until we meet. As actor Huang Bo, who came with an original IP, said, "Youth brings infinite possibilities." We are witnessing this advancing "cultural Guangdong army" shaping a "new force" of cultural IP with innovation as the "source code" and integration as the "driver". (New Society)
