As the middle and high school entrance examination period approaches, many candidates and parents may experience tension and anxiety. Psychologists say that anxiety is a natural emotional response under certain pressure, and moderate anxiety is helpful for preparing for exams or other important events. But if a child falls into excessive anxiety, how can they alleviate it and make good physical and mental adjustments? What should be paid attention to in terms of diet? The reporter interviewed relevant experts. Wang Wei, Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Mental and Psychological Health at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, introduced that pre exam anxiety is a common emotional reaction experienced by candidates. The key to alleviating excessive anxiety is to learn to face anxiety, accept one's own emotions, understand that this is a normal reaction under pressure, and gradually reduce anxiety levels through scientific methods. Wang Wei suggests that candidates should understand that moderate anxiety can help stimulate potential while avoiding excessive self blame. You can try breaking down the overall review task into achievable small goals and gradually completing them, which not only enhances confidence but also alleviates a sense of urgency. In addition, learning to relax is also key to relieving anxiety, such as meditation and mindfulness exercises, which can effectively reduce tension. Communicating with family, friends, or teachers before exams can provide emotional support and also serve as a good psychological buffer. Maintaining a regular schedule is a prerequisite for ensuring learning efficiency and physical and mental health. It is recommended that candidates avoid staying up late and ensure 7 to 8 hours of high-quality sleep every day. Moderate exercise is also a good way to relieve stress. Persisting for about 30 minutes every day can help alleviate stress. Experts suggest that parents should listen to their children's feelings as much as possible during the pre exam stage, reduce criticism and accusations, in order to truly understand their inner thoughts. Create a relaxed family atmosphere and avoid putting extra pressure on children outside of studying. Meanwhile, parents should learn to recognize their children's emotional changes and provide timely encouragement and support. Liao Xia, Deputy Chief Physician of the Clinical Nutrition Department at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University, stated that candidates' dietary arrangements must be safe and hygienic, and they should try to form a certain dietary pattern before the exam and continue until the end of the exam. Liao Xia suggests that every meal should have staple food and vegetables, accompanied by appropriate amounts of fish, poultry, meat, eggs, milk, beans, etc. The amount of each meal can form some habits in advance, and it is not recommended to consume too much total energy throughout the day. Avoid high salt, high sugar, and high-fat diets to prevent gastrointestinal discomfort and blood sugar fluctuations, which can affect mood. Reduce the intake of caffeinated beverages such as coffee and strong tea to prevent overexcitement of the nervous system. Candidates who need to add meals can choose to consume foods rich in high-quality protein, such as dairy products and soy products, in moderation. (New Society)
