2025-04-21

The sunlight penetrates through the clouds, and the endless cotton fields sway like a sea of clouds, rolling and surging on the canvas. Upon closer inspection, the texture of the cotton peach is layered and blended using traditional oil painting techniques. The trajectory of mechanical harvesting is transformed into golden lines, creating a collision of warmth and coldness with the snow capped peaks of the Tianshan Mountains in the distance... Walking into the first floor exhibition hall of the Xinjiang Art Museum, the oil painting "Xinjiang Cotton - Fertile Field" is displayed in front of visitors, and the scenes of various ethnic groups working hard for a better life are deeply imprinted in their hearts. Recently, the 5th Xinjiang Oil Painting Exhibition opened at the Xinjiang Art Museum. The exhibition is themed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the autonomous region, with the main theme of strengthening the sense of community of the Chinese nation. It showcases 136 exquisite paintings. This is a milestone presentation of the development process of oil painting art in Xinjiang Zhang Leizhen, Chairman of the Xinjiang Oil Painting Society, introduced that the exhibition's works not only reflect the theme of prosperous times and beautiful homes, but also showcase the humanistic narratives of the Silk Road turtle shell, poetry, and distant places. These works integrate patriotism into daily work and life scenes through the creative technique of "seeing the big picture from the small". In recent years, the development of Xinjiang's cultural and tourism industry has continued to improve, and the golden signboard of "Xinjiang is a good place" has become increasingly shining. The work "Beautiful Xinjiang Silk Road Tour: Visiting Tianchi" depicts the scene of international friends taking a boat to swim in Tianchi with relaxed strokes and bright colors. Tourists taking photos on the deck and actors singing and dancing in the cabin are brightly colored and leisurely looking, creating a harmonious and natural scene. The work "Towards the Future: The Promise of Cocoto Sea 3" adopts innovative painting techniques and highly summarized colors, organically combining ice and snow sports with the scenery of Cocoto Sea, conveying the youthful atmosphere and vitality of young people. The work 'Encountering Xinjiang: Ethnic Musical Instrument Store' combines scene composition and oil painting techniques to bring contemporary artistic vitality to the production and life scenes under the integration of culture and tourism, echoing the concept of 'art connects hearts' in cultural enrichment in Xinjiang...' The exhibition constructs a complete narrative chain of intergenerational inheritance and innovative development through the 'joint exhibition of old, middle-aged and young artists' model.' Zhang Leizhen stated that the proportion of young artists in the selected works for this exhibition has significantly increased, demonstrating the vigorous new vitality of Xinjiang's art industry. There are many avant-garde painting techniques in the exhibited works. In the work 'Marriage Promotion', the bright colors of traditional Uyghur wedding customs, combined with comprehensive materials and contemporary oil painting texture techniques, make the painting retain both regional cultural characteristics and modern aesthetic value. Qin Tianxing, a painter who has a special fondness for mountain shapes, uses a combination of composite materials and oil painting pigments to create cracked rock textures on the canvas. His work "The Vibrant Earth of Xinjiang Mountains" features a highly dynamic composition and colors, elevating the natural landscape into a poetic and spiritual symbol. The painting "New Appearance of the Ancient City" created by the painter Elixiati Tursun shows streets winding upwards from the bottom of the painting, extending from the old city area of Kashgar in the foreground to the new city area in the distance. From the scattered old houses to the modern towering buildings, the contrast is vivid and harmonious. Works such as "Highland Moments", "Apricot Ripe Season", and "Prosperous Years of the Great American Army" depict vivid and lively scenes of border life through their respective artistic experiences. This is a microcosm of Xinjiang's leapfrog development since the new era. The combination of realistic character images and generalized graphic backgrounds, the sublimation of art, makes the happiness of all ethnic groups in Xinjiang vividly visible Li Ningxuan, Director of the Oil Painting Teaching and Research Office at the Academy of Fine Arts, Xinjiang Normal University, commented. In addition to unique Xinjiang elements, the painting also showcases the strength of the hardcore industry. Standing in front of the work "Beautiful Xinjiang - Red Melody 19", the viewer seems to be in the midst of the roar of Karamay Oilfield - the rhythm of machinery is deconstructed into bouncing paint, steel scaffolding into bouncing strokes, and the surging track of oil waves sublimates into a hymn of life. The work 'West East Gas Pipeline Project' adopts a panoramic composition, comprehensively depicting natural gas production facilities, gas pipelines, and modern cities. The painting techniques are delicate, reflecting the characteristics of industrial aesthetics. At the exhibition site, the audience took photos before a painting was created, and art students discussed creative ideas and color expression. Different viewers experienced the Xinjiang poetry and painting through the transformation of color blocks. When the roots of artistic creation are deeply rooted in the hot soil beneath our feet, and when creators touch the pulse of the times with a childlike heart, they can give birth to stunning visual epics, "sighed Ma Jianwei, Secretary General of the Xinjiang Oil Painting Society.
