The year-on-year decline in the consumer price index for March has narrowed

2025-04-11

The reporter learned from the National Bureau of Statistics that in March, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) decreased by 0.4% month on month and 0.1% year-on-year, with a significant narrowing of the decline; The Producer Price Index (PPI) for industrial producers decreased by 0.4% month on month and 2.5% year-on-year. This is mainly influenced by seasonal and international input factors. From the perspective of marginal changes, policy effects such as boosting consumer demand have further emerged, core CPI has significantly rebounded, supply and demand structure has improved, and prices have shown some positive changes. The month on month decline in CPI is mainly influenced by seasonal factors and the downward trend in oil prices. One reason is that the weather is getting warmer, and some fresh food products are being sold in large quantities, resulting in an overall sufficient food supply. In March, food prices decreased by 1.4% month on month, affecting the CPI by about 0.24 percentage points, accounting for 60% of the total CPI decline. Secondly, the number of tourists traveling during the off-season has decreased, resulting in a decrease in travel prices. The third factor is the downward impact of international oil prices, with domestic gasoline prices decreasing by 3.5% month on month. The policy effects of boosting consumer demand are gradually emerging, and more aspects are showing obvious positive changes. The CPI decreased by 0.4% month on month, which is 0.2 percentage points lower than the average level of the same period in the past 10 years. The effects of policies such as "trade in" are gradually becoming apparent, with industrial consumer goods prices excluding energy rising by 0.5% month on month, an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the previous month. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy prices, has significantly rebounded, from a decrease of 0.1% last month to an increase of 0.5% year-on-year. The main reasons for the month on month decline in PPI are as follows: firstly, international input factors have affected the downward trend in prices of domestic oil and some export industries; The second is the seasonal decline in demand for energy such as coal; Thirdly, prices in some raw material industries have declined. The rapid development of high-tech industries has led to effective policies such as promoting consumption and updating equipment. The supply and demand structure of some industries has improved, and prices have shown positive changes. One is that the development of high-tech industries plays a driving role in the prices of related industries. The widespread application of artificial intelligence, high-performance large models, and other related industries has led to a year-on-year increase or narrowing of price declines, with wearable smart device manufacturing prices rising by 4.6%; The manufacturing technology advantages of aircraft, ships, etc. are obvious, and the manufacturing prices of aerospace vehicles and equipment have increased by 2.0% year-on-year, while the manufacturing prices of ships and related devices have increased by 0.7% year-on-year. Secondly, the demand for some consumer goods manufacturing and equipment manufacturing industries has increased and prices have risen. Policies such as promoting consumption and updating equipment have shown significant effects, and the demand for some consumer goods and equipment manufacturing products is steadily released. In addition, spring plowing and preparation have driven up the seasonal prices of agricultural inputs. Spring plowing and preparation work is gradually being carried out from south to north, with an increase in demand for agricultural inputs and prices rising month on month. (New Society)
