On the 20th, it was learned from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) that the university has recently received approval from the Ministry of Education to add 4 undergraduate majors, 5 master's programs, and 1 doctoral program. The 10 newly added majors and projects are all aimed at meeting the major needs of national economic and social development and the urgent needs of the development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and are committed to cultivating more innovative and versatile talents. In terms of undergraduate education, the four newly added majors are Materials Science and Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Financial Technology, and Microelectronics Science and Engineering. Including the artificial intelligence, data science and big data technology, and intelligent manufacturing engineering majors previously offered by the school, the number of undergraduate enrollment majors at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) has increased to 7 this year. In terms of training mode, the school will recruit the first batch of undergraduate students in 2023, mainly adopting the integrated training mode of bachelor's and master's degree and direct bachelor's and doctoral degree. During the undergraduate stage, students receive comprehensive training regardless of major in the first two years, and enter professional studies in the third year. In order to encourage and support undergraduate students to participate in scientific research, the school launched the "Five Ones" plan for undergraduate research in June 2024. A professor will guide one undergraduate student throughout the entire process, team up to carry out a scientific research project, enter a laboratory to experience advanced scientific research instruments and equipment, and after the project is completed, produce a scientific research practice result through various forms. 70% of undergraduate students in the school participate in this project. In terms of master's and doctoral education, this year there are new taught master's programs in intelligent manufacturing, carbon neutrality and green finance, and computational arts. There are also new research-based master's and doctoral programs in carbon neutrality and climate change. In addition, there is a new MBA program in innovation, entrepreneurship, and business management (MBA+). The master's and doctoral programs at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) are both overseas master's and doctoral degree education. They adopt an independent enrollment and application review system, and the admission standards are not lower than those of similar majors at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in the Hong Kong region. After completing their studies and meeting the graduation requirements, students will be awarded a degree certificate from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is located in Nansha, Guangzhou, and is a mainland Hong Kong cooperative educational institution with independent legal personality. The school will be completed and open in 2022, adopting an academic structure of "hub" and "domain", replacing the traditional "college" and "department" settings, promoting interdisciplinary integration, and promoting the development of emerging and cutting-edge disciplines. In addition, internationalization is also one of the distinctive features of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). The school uses English as the main language of instruction and has international students and faculty from 22 countries and regions around the world. The school has also signed more than 10 cooperation agreements with world-class universities, creating rich opportunities for students to exchange and study abroad. (New Society)
