Amidst the sound of firecrackers, the year ends, and the spring breeze brings warmth into Tu Su. Every day, thousands of households exchange their old charms for new peaches. "In a classroom at a Chinese school in Dubai, UAE, a Chinese language class themed around the Spring Festival is underway. The students read the ancient poem "Yuanri" in unison, and learned about the culture of Chinese Spring Festival and felt the strong flavor of Chinese New Year through fun games such as guessing puzzles and getting lucky bags. Chinese teacher Bao Jianhong also showed the students pictures of foreign friends participating in the Spring Festival activities, demonstrating the new atmosphere of the Spring Festival constantly moving towards the world. The customs of the Spring Festival have been passed down for thousands of years and have continued until now. It's really amazing Class 301 student Gao Weilian said that many traditional customs are described in ancient Chinese poetry, which contains the wisdom of ancient people and their love for life. In class, he and his classmates learned about the origin of Spring Festival customs such as pasting couplets, drinking Tu Su wine, and setting off firecrackers. He said, "I will work hard to learn ancient poetry, learn more about traditional customs, and share them with more people in the future." The art classroom was also filled with joy. A square red paper, after folding and cutting, has been transformed into a three-dimensional "spring" character in the hands of students. Paired with golden tassels and handwritten "fu" characters, handmade "spring" lanterns are completed one by one. Hong Jianjun, an art teacher, said that the combination of Paper Cuttings technique and lantern modeling would enable students to feel the charm of traditional customs in hands-on production. The corridors of Dubai Chinese School are also filled with a strong festive atmosphere, with red lanterns, Spring Festival couplets filled with blessings, and cute Snake Year mascots. Principal Zheng Li said that the school combines traditional Chinese festivals such as the Spring Festival to carry out rich and colorful cultural experience activities, integrating excellent traditional Chinese culture into subject teaching, comprehensive practical activities, and after-school expansion courses. This not only enhances students' comprehensive literacy, but also allows them to have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. As the first full-time Chinese school overseas, Dubai Chinese School has become a business card for cultural exchanges between China and Arab countries. The school is entrusted by the Chinese Ministry of Education to Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and led by Hangzhou Second Middle School. The school is managed and taught by a principal and key teachers selected by Hangzhou City. Arabic is a featured subject offered by Dubai Chinese School. As a teacher who joined the school from the beginning, Ah language teacher Shi Hongming witnessed the development process of the school. From researching and promoting Arabic language teaching methods, to translating and rehearsing the Chinese song "Jasmine Flower" in Arabic English trilingual versions, to participating in the China Arab Youth Forum as a teacher representative, this 85 year old has grown into the head of Arabic language subjects in schools after living and working in Arab countries for more than 10 years. Dubai Chinese School also offers weekend Chinese language courses for local residents, especially teenagers. This semester, over 200 students from more than 20 countries and regions participated in Chinese language courses at different levels. I really like this school. The teachers are kind and caring about my studies and life like family. Sofia, a 9-year-old Iranian girl, has participated in Chinese language courses at Dubai Chinese School multiple times. Last November, with the support of her parents, Sofia officially transferred to Dubai Chinese School for study. The school also actively promotes exchanges and cooperation with local schools in Dubai, promoting cultural exchanges between China and Arab countries. Dubai Chinese School is not just a school, but also a bridge for cultural exchange and a symbol of friendship between Dubai and China, "said UAE Deputy Minister of Economy Abdullah. Niu Jun, Director of the Education Bureau of Hangzhou, said that he hopes Dubai Chinese School can become a bridge that actively spreads Chinese culture, promotes cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and Arab countries, and promotes further understanding of China in the UAE and even the world.
